Hello,

is it possible to ask the user (before showing main) a username/password combination and depending on the entered information showing different content?

It would be great to store user-accounts, store users in groups to dis-/allow different content.

Regards

Thanks for the tip - I think there will be group/user system in the forthcoming version. It will also include the possibility to set a unique folder location for each user(or group).

Hi there.

Given that this post is over a year old now, and no passwords in sight yet, I ´d like to push this again.

Actually it would be enough for me personally to set up a passwort for an album, regardless of who browses the site. Maybe this can be easier /earlier implemented than a whole user/auth system?

Would it work to put a .htaccess in the albums folder?

(I ´d also like to see a user based authentification, but AS WELL the simple album password protection :D)

Thanks,
Dani

Well, we are well underway with Imagevue V2 by now, and releasing non-beta these days. Password protection was never going to be a reality in Imagevue V1, but it is on the list of features to come for Imagevue V2.

You should be able to use .htaccess, and I have heard of users using it successfully. I haven't tried it myself ...

Thanks for the update!

I ´ll try the htaccess method as soon as I can and will post the result here :D

Edit: Putting a .htaccess protection in an album folder does indeed work. I suggest you create a protected album by using a subfolder though, and use the first folder as a textpage that explains things, so it does not look like a misconfiguration (and so you have a preview image in your menu) :D

Hi all,

just wanted to express my wish for proper password protection of folders as well.

Other than that, I'm going with the .htaccess, but that's not more than a bumby workaround. It asks for the user and password, and if you know it for the respective folder, your're fine. But if you don't, it kind of crashes the browser, since it keeps on asking for a user/pass every single time it wants to load a thumbnail of the folder... You can only click "abort" as often as the number of thumbnails per page is big.

So, please put a user/access management feature in the next release. :!:

Oh, did I say I really really like imagevue X2 besides that? I really like it! :)

That's a very useful feature. And what about password expiring function?
A user can view his album for a period of time. If he doesn't say anything, the password will expire, and we can delete his album. This is useful for companies that take photos on events (wedding, meetings, partys, etc.), and put albuns online for their clients.

I`ve been waiting for the Password protection for MONTH! I Think that is a VERY good Funktion if it is integrated because the .htacces don`t look very nice an destroy the very good design of Imagevue! 8)
SORRY for my BAD english! I`m from Germany! But Imagevue is the BEST Gallery I`ve ever seen!!!!

I'd like to report that I upgraded to X2.0.1 without problems, but I still experience the above described behavior:
Folders, that are .htaccess protected will ask for the user/pass for every single thumbnail which is somewhat strenious if you don't know it. Of course, if you know the user/pass then it only asks for it once.

See fotos.zoerner-web.de (any subfolder of "Privat") for an example.

Other than that, X2 rocks!!

Cheers, Al

Am I mistaken, or is the issue talked about here the same as what I have described?
Does that mean, there wasn't supposed to be an update within 2.0.1 as you said?
I looked at Misux' site and I think he's got the same problem as I have.

Al

There is some misunderstanding it seems, the bug I was reffering to, and the whole .htaccess protection thing is for admin directory /imagevue.

So passwords are in sync in .htaccess and admin, then you dont need to login twice if you have this folder protected.

Unfortunately that is all. There is no good way of protecting sinlge images.

Best bet is to keep folder as hidden and just give direct links to trusty people.
