safe mode restriction after upgrade

06 Feb 2013, 11:02

Hi,

I upgraded my site yesterday, (took ftp and upload all files execept iv-config and content).
Now the site doesn`t work anymore, it says
Warning: realpath() [function.realpath]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 921 is not allowed to access /tmp owned by uid 0

Do I have to change something somewhere? It worked fine before....

Thanx for the help

S

There is a problem accessing temp folder, you should contact your hosting support. This is getid3 library that extracts meta-data from files.

Hi,

And is there something I could do here? Because my hosting company wasn`t much help to me in the past....so I`m afraid that they won`t help me very much if I send them an email....

Ok,

I found something on the internet myself that seems to work...

First of all, I checked my imagevue with the imagevue-check.php, wich indicated that safe mode was on with an explication mark.
Then I found on the internet that you can override this setting via a simple php.ini file witch contains the line safe_mode = Off
So, I created this file, uploaded it in the root of my imagevue site, and everything seemed to work fine....

I don`t know if this was the correct way, as I don`t understand much from getid3 stuff, but everything seems to be working fine for me ;-)

Thanks

Good job! I was trying to see if it is possible to patch getid3 somehow...

I guess adding .htaccess might work as well, however this tip is not universal as it might not work on some sites.

Had the same prob but php.ini tip didin't solve it for me...
Had to get back to imagevue 2.8.4 sadly... :(
Oh and it has also messed up my powerpack instal settings (guestbook, comments, notes weren't available)
So i had to reinstall powerpack too...

Why not contact your hosting support? Safe_mode is a bad setting anyway and removed in later versions of PHP. There is only one way - up!

Thanks Nick.
Yes I've sent a request to my hosting support to know if they could do that.
Does the update from 2.8.4 to the last imagevueX 2.8.1 would reset the powerpack setup i made ?
I had to reinstall the powerpack after my last try to update and so lost my personal setup, but i don't know if i did anything wrong then?
Thanks for your help i you could.

EDIT : OK Nick, everything's fine now as they've turned it off.
Reinstallation of Powerpack also seemed to be preserving my edits, not as the last time.
So Imagevue X2.8.8.1 fully running now. Thanks !

Sorry just had to update the .zip file to fix stuck image resizing when upload. However if this is not a problem you can disregard this.
