mobile gallery not opening

01 Feb 2013, 17:58

When i visit http://amazingpics.net/ using a mobile device the site opens fine but when you CLICK on an image after selecting it from the menu, the image does NOT open.
Example: Open http://amazingpics.net ----> Select Nature ----> Select any picture and it DOES NOT open.

Its been that way for a while. I asked another friend on an iPad to test it and he said the same. Rarely, some of the pics open but most of the time the browser waits for a long time loading the page and in the end gives the "page cannot be found" error.

Any idea why?

ps: Does the mobile version have a "download image" option like the normal version?
Thanks.

mobile gallery not opening

02 Feb 2013, 06:28

Just a question... how large are the images?
I opened one in 'Nature' and it took a while to load... but eventually it did.
I could zoom in quite a lot without loosing quality, so I think the problem is that the images are quite large and that that is the reason for the low performance...

Oh, and I noticed on my desktop browser that you have really a lot of images and a lot of folders...

A lot of nice and interesting images, though...

The image sizes range from about 100 kb to 2 Mb.
Yes there are many images in a lot of categories and more coming up soon. Thanks for the nice words : )
I wish there was some "download" button on the mobile gallery though. Many of the visitors want to use them as mobile wallpapers.
Thanks.

Looks to me like an issue of "empty space" in folder names, which gets converted to "+" in the mobile version instead of using "%20". Your server seems it may be choking on the "+" character ... I will get Nick to take a look and confirm issue.

It actually works, but the big images can't get loaded before all thumbnails load, guess we could fix it up with lazy loading that is coming up in with the next release.

Right now I can only suggest to switch to an Image view mode in Settings > Mobile. And maybe have a bit less images in the gallery as well.

Maybe it is my internet but images seem to take a bit of time to load as well.

Actually would you like to try the latest build on your site?

Just upgraded it and now no pics show up at all when clicked on the mobile version menu.

example: http://amazingpics.net/?mobile=1

click on any item and no pics(or thumbnails) come up.

Also, i noticed since version 2.8.6 or so, the music restarts everytime you click on a different folder. Earlier I had just one mp3 track in the background and it used to continue without a break when clicking on different menu items and browsing around, but now it stops and restarts track from beginning on every menu item (nature, cartoons etc).
Thanks.

Really sorry about the fiasco, I have accidentally uploaded a version with some files broken. Here is the one from today that should work: https://d.pr/f/xBvK

thanks for the new file Nick, the mobile gallery now has lazy load images and seems a bit faster. However when i click on a thumbnail using a mobile phone, nothing happens. No picture loads. Can you please confirm? is the whole picture loading for you?
Also I notice (im not sure if this feature was there before) when i tap and hold a thumbnail it asks me to "save picture" and other options(is this an Imaguevue feature or the Phone's browser feature?), which is great ..but it only saves the thumbnail.
ps: the thumbnails load fine in the Opera browser but the pics dont load.
Thanks.

I am afraid the reason for this is the amount of Images in each folder. In fact it is impossible to even browse thumbnails on iPhone 4.

iPhone 5 on the other hand with it's faster processor works a bit better but there is a significant delay when you open the gallery still.

You can check the folder with less images and it would work fine: http://amazingpics.net/?/More/Illusions/

You can't save the image from the swipe gallery, but you can do it if you switch Mobile view to Images. Actually this is what I suggest you to try and see if this works better.

But with this amount of images it probably won't be too helpful. To fix it we would have to keep the reasonable amount of images inside the page so users can scroll up and down and then remove the ones that are out of screen bounds. But then again, it would take some time and testing.
