Flash buffer overloading problem?

10 Nov 2012, 15:37

Hi , I have large amounts of photos and often when imagevue is running the Browser hangs up and after a few seconds Adobe flash plugin crashes. Im Using the latest mozilla firefox 16.0.2 browser.
I saw something similar (plugin crash) on a streaming flash video website and recently they have fixed it i guess with some "buffer full" message and stops buffering more----so i was wondering if buffer overload in Imagevue is causing it to crash and if there's a solution to it?
Thanks.

I would say yes, what you are experiencing is likely related to the flash player and your combination of browser/OS. However, there is no access to the "buffer" or any other related items from flash so we can't control this in any way. I would expect this is caused by some kind of memory issue with your system vs flash player - In Imagevue we do not store images in the background or anything, and there is no local cache or buffer we are in control of. Also, I am not sure how this compares with a video player that they fixed ... If they changed it, I assume they did something like Youtube have done and make sure that the entire video does not load into the visitors flash, but instead makes sure to stay at some threshold ahead of the playhead. That is a video-specific technique of course, simply to save bandwidth and memory, and nothing we can apply into Imagevue ...

This is a bug of some sorts in the flash player vs your system. What OS are you using? May I see a link to your gallery?

using Windows 7 and Firefox 16 browser. Sometimes it crashes in Chrome too, but only rarely.

ps: is this of any help? http://www.macromedia.com/support/docum ... ger07.html

thats the actual flash settings control panel of the Flashplayer of anyone who visits it.

Some explanations about it if you didn't already know :

I am checking your gallery currently, and it is working fine on a Mac (Firefox + Chrome). It is very unfortunate if the flash players crashes in your browser some times, but there is nothing in flash that we can set to control this in any way or other. Sadly, there are some combos of the flash player which are engineered poorly it seems for some browser/os combinations.

Unfortunately, this is entirely unrelated. This is client-settings for the flash player, that primarily sets "local storage" or flash cookies, which means basically text data (cookies) that flash is allowed to store directly on the client. There is nothing here that sets memory usage of the application.

ok thats cool. oh, by the way every time i view my gallery for 4 or 5 mins and close the window, the firefox browser gives this error msg :

" this script is still running http://amazingpics.net/:22 Do you want to stop running this script?"

(and the music still plays after i close the browser and only stops after i say "yes stop the script" )
Thanks.

Never seen this before ... Sounds like another (and likely related) browser vs OS vs flash-player bug to me ... Of course the script is running when the page is open. When you close the page, the script is not running ... If your browser cant close the page without creating that error, then there is some bigger bug in your browser/OS combo than we cant possibly solve. Did you try removing some plugins or run in safe mode?

In my opinion, this sounds like a bug related to the imminent crashing on the same system.

yes it that error precedes a crash too. maybe a firefox plugin or extension...or perhaps due to a system cache management software on my latop or a combination of them. Ill check it out, thanks anyway.
Thanks.
