There is no ultimate solution to this, because basically the menu is hidden by default to take it out of the way of the gallery. If you choose to always display the menu, there are a few compromises you must accept ... It also depends on how wide your menu is, how large the visitors screen is, and how large the thumbnails are.
Generally speaking, I would simply recommend hiding the menu, but if you insist on having the menu always visible, never overlapping thumbnails, there are a few precautions.
First of all, you can go to admin -> settings -> thumbnails.thumbnails.margin = 100,100,200,
100 ... Increase the last item to 200 or more. This item sets the margin on the left of thumbnails. Keep in mind, this will have a slightly adverse effect on small screens, since it leaves much less space for thumbnails, but perhaps acceptable.
I would also suggest minimizing the width of your menu by editing settings in the theme. Make sure you have a minimal indent (for submenus), and you could also remove the file count[] item.
