Video File

08 Sep 2011, 02:04

When uploading video files do I need to enable anything for the files to play?

Is it possible for me to use a thumbnail image in place of the video icon? if so how do I do that?

Is the only video format thats supported FLV? Are there any other formats supported?

Basically I want to set up my site similar to this.

Thanks

Not really ... but keep in mind that you can only upload FLV video files. Also, your server may not support very large uploads through the admin uploader, in which case you must use FTP to upload large-size videos.

Yes. Simply create your thumbnails by using the same filename as the FLV video. For example, if you have uploaded a video file myvideo.flv, then you can upload a thumbnail image tn_myvideo.jpg.

Unfortunately FLV is the only format that flash can play natively. You can use other formats, but they would need to open in new windows or popup windows, and would use the visitors local mediaplayer (which in some case is not set up correctly to play videos from the web).

That should not be a problem ...

You can also upload any image as a "cover" and then in the file list click the [_] Change Thumbnail icon which appears when you hover on FLV file and choose any thumbnail from the folder (if there are any). You can delete the "cover" image after.
