Cut Off Images: X2.7.2

20 Jun 2011, 23:50

Hello!

I'm coming from the world of "gallery", so pardon me if I have some terms goofed up here. X2 is great, I'm really enjoying it.

The one problem I am having with 2.7.2 is that some of my images are being cut off. Sequence of events:

1) I find the album I want
2) I find the image in that album that I want, click it
3) I notice that the image compared to the thumbnail (seen in step 2) is cut off
4) I check my settings and thumbnails are set to resizetobox (but I guess that doesn't apply at this stage?)
5) I confirm that the original image is not cut off

A good example of this is here (NOTE: May get moved, harass me if you get 404):

Album thumbs: http://fire-eyes.org/p/#/content/ob/a/m/

The picture actually has all words visible, as can be seen in the small thumb if you hover over the bottom of the page. That's also how it's seen in the slightly larger thumbnail on the index of images for that album.

I'm guessing that I'm missing a setting somewhere, and I'm looking for pointers as to what. I have messed around with the image display options, and even the "original" setting has it cut off like this. I set it back to fitmargin.

Thanks!

This has an explanation:

Flash has a limit to how large images it can load, and this is approximately around 2000 x 2000px I think. It does this because there is a memory limit to how large images it can handle. The result is that it cuts off larger images so they are the maximum size of what it can handle ...

Why are you uploading images un-resized at 4000px? nobody can view images at this size on the web without having them scaled down anyway, and its annoying waiting for several MB to load for each image ... Why are you not resizing the images for the web? You can even use a large display size like 1280px length ...

Ah! That's it. It won't be up for long but here's a copy of that image resized to 2000 pixels wide:

That did it.

As for why I like to host full-size images, in the past it did not matter to me, however I was not yet at the point that someone might want to actually steal my images. So it's actually a good thing that I am forced to resize down. That and things will go faster. Thanks a lot!

It certainly makes them more "watchable" when the visitor does not need to download 1-2 MB for every image!

I agree in 101% !

In alternative way I can recommend you keeping oryginal size images in "_altimage" folder, and for preview upload 150-200kb files, like I do...
