Actually it disappeared before that, in v2.5 with the addition of drag-n-drop sorting and cache. We had to remove it to let users sort images manually and make gallery working faster.

There can be you will return it in xml a file (sort = "rnd") how it was earlier? And in admin panele all will leave as is. I used a casual conclusion of a photo, it was very convenient for me.
