Can I place an image (transparent .png) above all content of galley.
I need this because I'm setting the image scale logic to croptostage – an I can't use the method described in this post

hmm, you want some logo above all content. I would suggest using the IMAGELAYER setting - Go to admin -> settings -> image.imagelayer.layer .. See the options there. Find a SWF overlay, and enable it to laod and display above your images at your choice of alignment. Keep in mind this does not display in thumbnail mode though.
As for filtering different display methods between video and images, this is nothing we have integrated so far, although we will be integrating a RESET method for next release, so that each "next" image/video starts in default size. Not sure how this will integrate if you set default zoom mode to croptostage though ...
