You are right, and this even causes some browsers to crash. This is a common issue, so I know the reason >>
It is the SWFAddress javascript module which goes nuts when it intercepts the characters "()" in your filenames. The SWFAddress module is the javascript that sets the path to the folder- or image in the browser url field behind the # character. Either you need to rename your files, removing the () characters, or you need to disable the SWFAddress module from admin -> config -> settings.useswfaddress ...
There may be an update to this javascript sooner or later which fixes this bug...
