Hmm there are 2 sort selectors now:

defaultSortFolders - sets defaul sort for folder list (like Alfabetically)

defaultSoftFiles - this one for files (By date descending)

For files to inherit the setting sort on this folder should be set to auto, otherwise folder individual settings will override config.

How can i sort folders? is it possible only by option from config called 'defaultSortFiles'? What if for example I want to have some folders sorted by name and other by date? i think it should work exacly like file sorting: in setup i can set default sorting but for each folder i can change it individually...

maybe in individual folder options you can put additional select field titled 'folders sorting' and the one witch is now called 'sorting' change to 'files sorting'

this is what i want some folder to be sorted ND but in config i set NA. but it wont sort to ND it always sort by NA. it always follow the config page rather than the individual folder setting. 20080814 release still ok until 20080825.

Just checked once again, everything works fine, folder sort setting overrides config settings for files inside the folder.

And there is one way to sort folder as of now, but you can sort files independently in each folder.

Although if you think folders could be sorted differently in each dir you can just rename them, not titles but foldernames.

i guess folder sorting is not working for each folder directory with V2 08/11/20

my settings in config:

defaultSortFolders
na
defaultSortFiles
na

i would like to see my subfolders sorted "name desc"

1. "Bilder"
2. Subdir "Ausflà¼ge" -> all folders inside "Ausflà¼ge" should be sorted "name desc"

I would like to see all new folders on top like "2008-10-26 Lugano_Locarno(filname on server)" which is now on bottom and "2006-08-19 Waegitalersee" is on top. i think this should be solved if i change from "auto" to "name desc" in admin->folder info. I can change all 8 sorting rules but nothing happens although i get a successfully saved message. it is still sorted "name asc"

Any idea? If you need more details/access ftp/imagevue pls let me know.

Thanks in advance

Oops sorry, you want subfolders sorted like files?
Unfortunately Files sort doesnt affect folders, and vice versa.

If you want folders to be sorted in a certain way you can rename folders and use title.

Like:
1_folder
2_folder
3_folder

etc

and give em some human readable titles.

Ok, then it was not clear in the admin menu. i was thinking that the "sorting drop down" in "folder info" also concerns folder sorting for subfolders. (Maybe you can rename from sorting -> file sorting. That should be clear for everyone) i`m already working with the number "workaround" in folders. For mainmenu which is usually static its a good solution. For subfolders which is changing regulary its not working very well. if there are 20 subfolders for example you need to change the number in each folder to get the new picture folder on top.

name asc:
1_folder
2_folder
3_folder
4_folder
5_folder
...

Another way i`m thinking about it to change "folder default sort" -> name desc, and give the main menu new numbers to see them name asc.

As far as i know you are already thinking about new sorting methods? If its possible to set up it would be nice to get different kinds of sorting for subfolders as well. you can give folders numbers and change the title and nobody will see it but if you send a "picture link" the receiver see the backend structure.

Maybe you have some ideas for further releases. Till now the V2 Gallery is a great work!!! thanks to all guys who spend so much time on this project :-)

We already have future plans for improved custom sorting through the admin without having to rename files. I don't know what other "sorting options" we could include ...

As of now, if none of the sorting options are appropriate, you need to use the custom sorting method you are using. An idea may be to use more 'space' in between your numbers. For example:

003_folderone
006_foldertwo
009_folderthree
012_folderfour

Now, if you need to insert new items, you can add them in between the numbers, without having to rename other folders.

I have tried this without success. I am assuming by choosing "name ascending" the numbers will ascend. They don't. Any other suggestions?

thanks....

That could be if you have not set correct imagesorting, or if you have set specific imagesorting for a folder. I will need to see a link.

My mistake. I was mixing up the FOLDERS with the TITLES. I wondered why it wouldn't work. "Pilot error"....:)

if you can set up sorting on folder level like on files that would be a great feature in a future release. at this moment i can work with the "number" workaround and folder sorting "desc" as default. yesterday i had another idea. maybe there is a way with sorting on "exif" meta? if you have a "best of" folder you can use the date (DateAndTimeOriginal) from exif meta. In that case you will have a "date history" in the folder. I don't know if there is a way maybe thinking about it.

PS: Congratulation for the Final release and the developers work within the last month. You have done lots of features since the fist beta release! I'm very happy to work/use imagevue. Looking forward to new features :-)
