[SUGGESTION] rename all titles and/or descriptions in folder

30 Jul 2008, 15:02

is it possible to add a function to rename all pictures in one folder at once?

for example:
i have ~100 pictures of an event like a baptism and i want to have that all files will be renamed like "baptism on mm-dd-yyyy". to edit every file is an arduous task. :?

greets....max

In my own opinion, renaming the files themselves is not interesting. You can do this on your computer before uploading them if you want.

But I think that it would be useful to change all titles and descriptions of selected pictures at once... For instance, It would be fantastic to set titles of 50 pictures to "baptism on mm-dd-yyyy" or "baptism #/56" (where # is a counter), and to set all descriptions to the place/town where baptism took place.

What do you think about this ? :)

We had a similar question a few days ago, and I had to ask - Why do you want to set the SAME title on all files in a folder? Part of the titles job is to individualize each picture, and the only reason it would even be possible, is because title is just a virtual substitute for the physical name of the file.

As for descriptions, I had a suggestion: If you want to make a general description for ALL images in a folder, then why can't you use the folder description? I can create a setting for image descriptions, that allows the folder description to display along with every image. For example, you could set the following combination for each image:

imageindex (ex. image 2/10)
imagetitle
folderdescription

Yes I understand. But imagine that for some reasons I only want to create a folder "concert" and I do not have use of many subfolders in this folder (imagine for instance that I have only 30 different concert photos, taken from some different artists in two different places). In this case, I would love to assign the same description (the concert place) to the description of each set of 15 photos... and it could be really boring to copy-paste the same description to each photo if I have 50 photos or more and not "only" 15...

Do you understand what I mean ?

Well, this is certainly not a feature of first priority but I think I would love it...

Well I sorta made a workaround for that :p
I just use the foldername as an description object.
Which then makes ALL pictures have the same description ;)

But it depends on the situation if that is or is not handy :P
But only if you USE SUBFOLDERS like I myself do.
Otherwise it wouldn't work.

Short term solution :
Use a directory printing tool.
And a batch replace tool to create a corresponding folderdata.xml.

Long term solution :
A function in imagevue which lets you select multiple items and applying a description.

Yes of course... but as you wrote, I do not use the folders and subfolders like you... so I think it would be a great tool to have in imagevuex v2 :)
