Anyone use flickr(flickr.com)?

03 Nov 2006, 04:03

We are currently working on a slideshow vs. flickr related project, and I would like to know if there are any flickr users in here?

I will explain more in this topic (and start asking questions :wink: ) if there are any interested users ...

I would definitely be interested in the integration of imagevuex with flickr. The ability to see latest photos and photosets. Flickr provide a really good API.

IMHO two solutions for the integration:
- Directly embbed flickr API calls in the Flash (maybe not enough custumizable)
- Provide an interface (ie. a connector) between imagevuex and whatever photo storage solution as a XML file. Imagevuex would load images from the XML build with PHP or ASP...

<image>
<title>foo var</title>
<src>http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2264/222 ... 4.jpg</src>
</image>
....

Note that Flickr already provides orignal format, thumbnails and other formats see here: http://www.flickr.com/services/api/misc.urls.html

This way it would be highly custumizable and could be integrated with Flickr , Picasa, ...

Just my 2 cents.

Flickr user with roughly 100,000 views here...

It would be a nice option -;)

Would be nicer if flickr could optionally be limited to a specific gallery folder with the admistrative option to allow linking through to flickr or not...

Took some time before I got any response here, but suddenly they came trickling through ... which is great!

Generally, we have already been experimenting with connecting the new version of Imagevue up towards Flickr. But what does it mean? It means that you will be able to connect your imagevue gallery to display images from flickr instead of uploading images to your own server. This gives the advantage that you will maintain, manage and organize all your images and "folders" directly through the flickr management. Descriptions, sizes, titles, sorting, categories will all be inherited into Imagevue.

We are of course speaking of the new Imagevue version in the making, which most of you are already aware of. We will first want to release the standard version 2, and then we can look further in flickr connectivity.

I will get back to this post once we get that far. I may need some feedback from other flickr users - Thanks!

OK SO that sounds like a 'Imagevue slideshow' vs 'FLickR slideshow' thing, right ?
Sounds good to me and maybe this could be also done related to some other popular photography sites (aminus3, ipernity, photopoints..)

Generally, yes, but keep in mind from our side it's not just a slideshow. There will also be a menu which indexes COLLECTIONS -> and SETS from Flickr. It therefore becomes a total gallery, unlike flickr's native slideshow which is strictly a slideshow for a single stream of images.

Any ETA on that new release? Also are you going to send emails out the owners of imagevue letting them know there is a new version?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry - Although this project has not been abandoned, we are currently more focused on providing nice frontend versions of Imagevue for smartphones/iphone, tablets/ipad and other non-flash devices ...
