Config Examples Lack Instructions in Documentation

01 Nov 2006, 16:54

I've spent days messing with the first five items of the configuration set-up in documentation and still do not fully understand them all. For examples, the use of a website that has already been configured and works, does little to explain the relative entries into the cofig files that MADE it work. My problem solving skills require some more insight. The term relative seems to be an expalnation that should solve all problems in a word...it does not.

Looking at a working example does NOT explain how you arrived at the finished production (-produced frustration). It would be simple to furnish and ACTUAL example of code that produced the example. I would rather have the cofig file's entry than the acutal working example, which I find nearly useless. The documentation is so abbreviated in this area that it is not easy to understand. I got through version 15 config with relative ease and enjoyed playing with it. My knowledge of the previous version did nothing for me in the current version. After a month, I'm still stumling around with cofigs and won't take the site public until I get it configured.

I know that you all worked very hard on this excellent program and I usually just make my own Flash presentations but this one is so dynamic that it sizzles. It's not as simple as it used to be is it?

Howdy!

I have to say I disagree. Considering the price of imagevuex alone, we're all getting a steal. Then if you factor in the major update, the new forums AND a whole new website, these guys are doing a great job!

As I understand, they are in fact working on the documentation but most likely other parts of the project are probably higher on the priority list, such as version 2 or finishing up the new website so everything works before populating it with even more documentation. Not to mention Karl responding to a huge amount of these forum questions, which has got to keep that guy real busy.

Though I do understand your concerns, as I myself have had similar issues, In my humble opinion I believe there simply isn't a better option out there, because if there were, we wouldn't be here right?

Of course this is just my 2 cents :-)
Good luck though!

Sincerely,
Christopher

Indeed, Karl is the only one who even bothers with answers... Christopher. When I got version 15, he helped me by email. The forum could do it's job if other members would bother with answers to questions. I'm just not on the same wavelength as who ever wrote the documentation on a few if the first expanation/ examples in the list of the configurations.

By the way, I did NOT say the program was not worth the investment! I just have trouble understanding how some of the program funtions with some of the documentaion that is provided.

A fourm will help if people get into it. Something else that would help is a search feature within this fourm. That would make it easier to find others who had similar issues resolved, without having to read all the posts for an answer.

I am aware of the lacking documentation :(. Be assured it will come one day soon, eventually along with further examples and demos.

Well, if you guys feel like you _solved_ some issue, dont hesitate to post about it, will help the ones who come after you. And will give us a ring about user experience too, because its bit hard to track down everything.

Thanks
