Trouble Setting Up two seperate instances of ImageVueX

28 Oct 2006, 14:03

I have a question regarding setting up two entirely seperate galleries/installations of Imageveux on one site. My website is www.trake-art.com I want to be able to launch two seperate galleries from my website's main navigation buttons (art and photography).

Now, the first you use to install imagevuex (the one titled "Upload" by default) I named "Art" and that is my basic art gallery with 4 sub categores.

The other gallery I want serperate of "Art" was one called "Photography"

I wish to do this because the two are very seperate and want to launch two galleries seperately with entirely different Start-up Images and (Idealy) a spereate color scheme from my website's main menu.

THE PROBLEM:
The problem I'm having in creating these two installations:

www.trake-art.com/art/
www.trake-art.com/photography/

The problem is only the first one (Art) works. The admin/thumbnail creation thing wont even recognize that there are uploaded pictures in Photography and its subfolders. And when I try and upload from the admin thing, it reads error. This has been the case for the past day.

Now, the thing is, Art was created first, tweaked to my liking, then copied and renamed photography. and then I deleted the content from it and uploaded the appropraite content and kept the configuration the same as before. Now I am waiting to create the thumbs for the files I uploaded, which it wont let me, as it cant see the ones I uploaded at all, not even the new upfolders created, it just reads "undefined" in the actual gallery view.

Am I doing something wrong? can I not have two copies of imagevuex running from the same root folder? Is there an easier way to do this?

I just dont want to mix art with photography. menu's, categories, subsections and all.

You shall have my deepest gratitude for any assistiance in this issue.

THANKS!

There is a simple mistake here -

In your first gallery, you have set singlelevel = true, and set up your folders correctly. However, in your second gallery where this setting has been reapplied, you have not set the correct folderstructure.

In your first gallery you have:
Code
content/groupfolder/imagefolder1
content/groupfolder/imagefolder2
The singlelevel setting has correctly allowed you to bypass the groupfolder and display the imagefolders directly in a singlelevel menu. However, in your second gallery, you have the following structure:
Code
content/imagefolder1
content/imagefolder2
You need to place your imagefolders in an overhead groupfolder which will be bypassed by the singlelevel setting if you wish to use this setting for your second gallery also(or else you need to set it to false in this gallery instance).

I know the singlelevel parameter is not as inuitive as it should pehaps be, but currently thats how its integrated.

I could also inform you that you could run multiple instances(including multiple configurations) of the Imagevue gallery without actually maintaining more than a single uploaded instance. As a quick example, you could upload your main Imagevue at:

trake-art.com/imagevue/

and then you could have independant galleries at

trake-art.com/art/
trake-art.com/photography/

In the index.php files for the above galleries, you would just referr globalpath=../imagevue/ and assign individual configuration files, and paths to content folders.

Having said that, there is nothing wrong wit your current approach simply uploading the gallery where needed. You can in any case run as many galleries as you want under a single site/domain.

Mjau my friend.... You rock the casbah. Thanks so much! The global setting sounds like a great help, I was wondering what that was, now I'll definatly use it.

Did you create imagevue? cos man, this is one heck of a gallery, I couldnt ask for more, well, only to have more options for the main menu, but aside from that, this is simply the best, most optimized, deeply and easily configurable flash gallery component I've come across yet. Major kudos to the person(s) responsible.

Thanks so much for all your help!
(btw, thats a bitchin mp3 player you have made there on your own site)

Cheers,
Trake

hi everyone (and sorry for my bad english !)

well, I've done exactly the same thing as beyondabraxas (a copy of my gallery ( http://lndam.free.fr/imagevue ).
I crated a folder called imagevue1, and upload it on the root.
So I have now two folders : imagevue and imagevue1, with exactly the same files.

no problem for the first gallery, but for the second one, I can create thumbnails via the administration (everything is ok), but I can not see anything (black screen) when I try to see this second gallery (http://lndam/free.fr/imagevue1)

NB : chmod is set to 777.
NB : same folderstructure on both galleries : content/groupfolder/imagefolder1

Hope I'm clear enough !

thanks for your help !
