Search capabilities

13 Mar 2008, 15:19

I would like to see true "Search" code included that would allow searching a mySQL table field named something like "Keywords" through PHP instead of having to have separate gallery categories.

Alos, a Purchase (store) section would also be great.

E-commerce integration is certainly something we have in mind, although "search" is something I am more dubious about.

Imagevue does not run from database, and is purely file-based. If we were to build a search facility, it would be a module which required database that could gather data from all images. Certainly something that can be done ...

Thanks for the tips!

Search ability

27 Aug 2008, 13:59

I really agree with adding a keyword search ability. Our company has tens of thousands of product and project photos, and we're deciding on what software to use to present our product photos as a marketing resource to our sales and administration departments. The ability to search for photo criteria and get a result back is critical. Example...show me every photo that was taken on a clear, sunny day, that has less than 6 people in the picture, includes a flat bed truck with a very specific product on it, and fits within requested dimensions.

As for e-commerce, it is interesting, but I'd recommend an ability to disable it for those who don't want to see it.

This would be like pro version, with some image converter which handles everything and does not run out of memory.

Too bad it would need a trained professional to handle.

But your company probably has one though...

We do have the graphics design resources (people and tools) to do all the data entry for the keywords. We also have more image converters than I can count. We are not limited on funding for hardware either so running out of RAM would only be a limitation of PHP and Apache on a 32 bit OS. What we're limited on is the programming staff to design the interface to bring it all together. I really think imagevuex is a very sexy interface with lots of polish. It just lacks a few key collaborate features that products like cooliris (piclens) has. Where cooliris goes wrong is they only target a specific "googlish" online crowd, and not the intranet for which we are interested. If you've spent millions on marketing materials, the last thing you want to do is use a public resource.

We've been thinking about some pro version with database and everything but that is time and resource demanding developement project. Maybe if someone would contract us for something like that made for them it would change something.

But for sure not before we push Imagevue2 through the release door.

If you're looking for just search by descriptions or tags, that can be contstructed even now using current version and some site search engine.

I would realy love to see a simple search function by tags or keywords.
Just add some keywords to pictures so that when someone searches by a keyword, all the pictures with that keyword are displayed...
