So what about comments?

16 Jan 2008, 13:57

Hey all !

I'm just posting to get infos about any possible addition to allow comments on each photos for our visitors.
I added a guset book to try to get some feedbacks but it looks like it isn't as useful as a photo comments would be.

I recently found a portfolio site in Flash in the same spirit as ImagevueX and it does have a comment form below each photos...
So i guess it could be done for our galeries too :)

See ya around !

Sorry, I posted a "no, useless" to the poll 8)

I can of course understand that many users would want to allow comments for their gallery on each and every picture. Below are some perspectives of my personal opinion:

# Personally, I am not a fan of comments. Imagevue is meant to be optimized for viewing images, and for every additional feature/module that is added, it helps clutter up the general overview. I think comments are more than fine for galleries like flickr or other HTML galleries that can scroll comments vertically at no limit, because they need not put too much focus on aesthetics, only functionality.

# If we do build a comment system into the new version(which we will eventually do if there is demand), it will need to be an add-on module with extended requirements. Comments will need to be run from a database.

Hi Karl !
That's fine for the "no" ;)

I understand your point, but I have to say that i do like feeback on individual photos..

I've used FlickR for a while now, and i must say that I'm tired of their kind of comments that aren't really ones no more in my opinion.
I'm still using other blogs or websites to get these 'fresh' feeds I'm looking for but i'd like to centralize all to the portfolio.
But maybe you're right, and better keep the portfolio free of comments...

The fact i found today this flash gallery i talked about just before, just made me think about it again, as the way he's implemented it within his showcase is discrete and fine.

Anyway... Thanks for your time to answer.

When you talked about database you mean using mysql from hosting services I guess ?

Have a nice night or day ;)
Ciao
Nico

Im sure we will be able to build a comments sytem after core issues has settled for the forthcoming version.

Yes. We would need to build the comments module on a database platform because of the amount and complexity of textitems per every image.
