This is a good question. There is no limit to the maximum size for the images you want to display in the slideshow. If images are too large to be displayed, they will automatically be scaled down to fit the viewers stage size.

My personal favourite is images that are 800 px long side. If you want to display larger images, you could consider images that are 1024px long side. Keep in mind these images will have nearly twice(2x) the filesize and they will often scale down for users on low/medium screen resolutions.
