I'm not quite sure about your setup ... If you have an English site and a German site, they must be two entirely separate X3 installations. There should not be any difference between them, unless you have different users and/or database setup.

Hint! If you are doing general file management, I would recommend trying the complimentary Files Gallery application, which should be installed in the /files dir (relative to your X3 website root). Files Gallery is superior for copying/moving/deleting/uploading files. See demo:

Are you using some kinda symlinks for one of them? Are you using the same main admin user for both? I can really only diagnose this if you can provide links and logins to both.

In regards to X3, it really doesn't have a specific "purpose" and it's not required in any way. However, Files Gallery is much more powerful and effective than X3 for browsing and managing files and folders. So if you are going to do just that (browse or manage files), then Files Gallery can be very useful as a complimentary tool. For example, login to the X3 Files Gallery Demo (guest/guest), and see how easy it is to view your X3 galleries and mass-manage files.

Ok, so this can be resolved quite easily. The only thing you have done, is delete the X3 index.php.

This is what you have done:

1. Installed Files Gallery in your root, overwriting X3 "index.php".
2. Deleted the index.php manually
3. Now there is no index.php file, and therefore no website.

Solution:
Re-upload X3's index.php.

1. Download X3 index.php here (right-click, save-as).
2. Upload into place in the root of your website.
3. All solved  :clap:

The question is, why (or where) you are trying to install Files Gallery? It's already installed here:

No. You must enable various file manager features from the config, and if you are doing that, you should create a login (username and password) and users (if required).

Files Gallery is already installed with (and for) your X3 in the link /files/. This link is pre-licensed to be used with your X3 content. You would only need to buy a Files Gallery license if using Files Gallery for something completely different than X3.

Yes, your website was down as long as index.php was deleted. Just re-upload index.php as instructed above.

Nobody can do anything on your websites from Files Gallery, unless you explicitly enable file manager functions in the config. File manager functions are pre-enabled in your pre-installed /files/ only because it also has login inherited from your X3.

Keep in mind index.php is your home page. That's why it's called "index". Therefore, when you installed Files Gallery index.php there, your overwrote X3's index.php, and Files Gallery would operate from your home page url.

What do you mean "first call of the gallery"? I checked your two websites architekturfoto.de and architekturfoto.de/de/, and there is no login.

If you are continuously editing and adding new pages to X3, then yes it would probably be easier to use Files Gallery. Whereas X3 panels are locked to their own content, Files Gallery could be used to manage BOTH X3 installations. For example, if you add a new page to one X3, you could then copy the folder with Files Gallery to the other X3 website, and then translate it.

This would require a license though, because you are using Files Gallery outside it's own "content". Don't you have a file manager installed with your hosting service? This might be able to do the same as Files Gallery.

Not sure where you saw this, and kinda pointless to discuss if you can't find it again. If there was already a login, it was likely the Files Gallery link I gave to you, that is already installed on your X3 website. For example here:

Yes it has a login form of course, because it needs to be secure. If it's already filled, it means it's because you have logged in earlier or your password manager thinks it knows the password. Others can't login of course.

You mean you uploaded to your website root? In my first answer, I said "which should be installed in your /files dir relative  to your X3 root", which correctly is https://www.architekturfoto.de/files/ and is password protected.

What "the gallery" are you looking for? What exactly are you expecting to find there? That url /x3/de/index.php is the same as just /x3/de/.

Besides, surely this has nothing to do with Files Gallery? Files Gallery is not installed there, and I have never told you to install Files Gallery anywhere (certainly not there).

At this point, you need to try to explain to me exactly what you are trying to do. Files Gallery is already installed here:

If you want/need to install it somewhere else, it should be installed in a NEW folder somewhere. Not overwriting into some /x3/de/ dir (what's the point of that)? Furthermore, you should NEVER need to access anything by writing "index.php" into your browser url.

For your info, these two urls are IDENTICAL:
architekturfoto.de/files/
architekturfoto.de/files/index.php

Never write "index.php" in browser. In your case, it's just causing you confusion. The index.php file is the file name that is automatically loaded (if it exists) when you access a dir (for example /files/). You can't have different "/x3/de/index.php" and "/x3/de/", they are the same thing. The only reason index.php doesn't load when directly accessed in that url, seems to be because you have some rewrite on server, but it really shouldn't matter because you won't find anything "different" by typing in "index.php".

At this point, I think you need to start from scratch:

1. Is there currently anything WRONG on your website? If so, what? Not being able to access "architekturfoto.de/x3/de/index.php" is not something wrong, because you aren't supposed to load "index.php" directly in url, and even if you could, it would only load the same dir page as the dir it's in anyway "architekturfoto.de/x3/de/".
2. When you/we have solved anything that's wrong, we could try to install Files Gallery. Until then, I don't even see what your post has to do with Files Gallery..

Ahh, ok I get why this could cause confusion ... In reality, there are certain conditions:

If you are uploading "index.php" to a dir where index.php already exists (like the X3 application dir), then you really need to rename the file to something else first. For example rename it to "myfiles.php", and then access it from path/myfiles.php. It's only called "index.php" by default because it's the most logical default name if you want to view files in a folder.

Optionally, since you only want to view X3 files and folders, you could drop the file inside X3's content dir instead?

Or what I would have done:

1. Created a new dir /myfiles/
2. Run it once (empty files) just to create the config
3. Edit the /myfiles/_files/config.php and set `'root' => '../'` (parent dir, root of your website)
4. You can now run Files Gallery from URL /myfiles/, keeping it entirely separate from anything else, while it's assigned to view all files from the root of your website.

You would probably also then enable login and file manager actions also from the config.
