Hi Julesxl,

This is a standard Imagevue feature.
If you go to Settings:controls.maincontrols and check the 'Enabled' button AND check beneath that the item 'togglethumbnails', you will have it too...

Thanks for a prompt response. The more imagevue unravels, the more I like it.

Hello,

Regarding my last post to Martin in which I asked:
"A question for you: I noticed your gallery allows visitors to swap between the last viewed photo and the the gallery to which that photo belongs. ...Would you mind explaining how you accomplished that?"

Now that I got it to work (thank you), I'd like to take it a step further: one button swaps between last viewed photo and the the gallery to which that photo belongs, another button that swaps between any gallery and the homepage in the same fashion as the first scenario. Essentially I'm looking to add a Home button to each gallery so that visitors don't have to resort to the main menu to to get the very first page.

Another question:
Main menu, Contact page (feedback email form) throws an empty thumbnail on mouseover. I'd like to disable that in the main menu. Our site is at http://www.movshovich.net, you can see what I mean by dropping the menu and pointing to Contact.

Last Q:
We're using the Firestarter theme, which we like. It has a flash bg. Where can I find instructions on how to change that bg to a custom flash file. Essentially, I'd like to know which file to overwrite (if possible) to avoid messing with the script or, if it comes to that, where in script to change the file name and where to upload the new file.

Thank you very much.

The initial question, I must say I am not 100% sure what is about. The other questions:
julesxl wrote:Main menu, Contact page (feedback email form) throws an empty thumbnail on mouseover. I'd like to disable that in the main menu. Our site is at http://www.movshovich.net, you can see what I mean by dropping the menu and pointing to Contact.
You are using a relatively outdated version Imagevue X2.6.4 ... Latest version is X2.8, and the issue mentioned above was solved several releases ago. Perhaps consider upgrading?

Want to change the background? You need to go to admin -> themes -> edit your theme -> style.background_image ... You need to add a reference to your own SWF file. Just upload your custom SWF to the theme folder. More about editing themes here:

Hello again. Thank you for responding to my previous post so diligently. What I'd like to know this time around is the following:

We are at http://www.movshovich.net, a bit odd for a domain name, but it is the photographer's last name. Whenever we Google or Bing ourselves, we see

Imagevue Gallery
http://www.movshovich.net/
Another Gallery from www.photo.gallery.

We'd like it to look like

Photography of Alexander Movshovich
http://www.movshovich.net/
Some self-gratifying description of why everyone should click here.

We accessed Seo in Gallery Settings, added a few comma-separated key words to what was already there, changed the Description to 'Photography of Alexander Movshovich' and Saved. No changes.

Please, advise us how to proceed. Thank you.

If you have changed the gallery description it will appear in Google in time. However don't expect it to change the same day.

Nick,

Thanks for responding. I understand that search engine updates require patience. Still though, let me ask this way:

Google/Bing index us like this

Imagevue Gallery
http://www.movshovich.net/
Another Gallery from www.photo.gallery.

We'd like to affect lines 1 and 3. I assume, Description in Seo addresses line 3. Are there other ways of approaching this? Please, comment. Thank you.

"Imagevue Gallery" comes from the fact that you did not change your site title. Go to admin -> settings -> settings.sitetitle and replace your title. This is the most important title/text in your page in terms of seo.

As for the SERP (description), I see it displays more info and not just "another gallery from www.photo.gallery". This is what I see:
Image

This is from your description:
Code
<meta name="description" content="Photography of Alexander Movshovich" />
However, your description is too short, so you should add some more information. Ideally, the title should be up to 60 characters (but can be less), but the description should be up to 160 characters. In your case, you only have around 20 characters, and then Google will try to find other text in the document so that it can expand your description ... You dont want this, so instead make your own description longer.

Hello,

So we at movshovich.net updated to the latest version of imagvue (movshovich.net/am, not live yet). Now we’re in the process of re-setting and here‘s the first problem I ran into:

I’ve asked this before, got help and it worked, however NOT with the new version. I’m trying to recreate the effect I described in posts dated 15 May 2011 02:22 and 15 May 2011 16:32, but although the second post outlines the process – no luck.

Please look at movshovich.net, the front page has thumbnails that lead to every one of our sub-galleries. Essentially, it’s a pictorial representation of the drop-down menu. I followed the process I outlined in post dated 15 May 2011 16:32 and got this far

1. Set the start folder to be used as ‘Folder’ rather than ‘Filemod’
2. FTP-ed the thumbs into the start folder. Control Panel shows and empty start folder
3. Used the Upload option in the Control Panel, saw the upload – empty start folder again.

Could you please outline the way I go about this in the updated version. Thank you.

Sorry, I am not quite sure where you were told that the above is the way to create a thumbnails-link-to-folder method ... Besides, I am not quite sure what you are referring to in #3 above "saw the upload - empty start folder again"? What is this?

To create thumbnail links, follow this guide:
1. Admin -> settings -> settings.attributes.image ... Add the "link" item
2. Admin -> settings -> thumbnails.thumbnail.click ... Set it to "link"
3. In your start folder where you have a normal gallery, add some images that represent the folders you are going to link to. For each image, you can see a "link" field. Add an internal link, for example #/folderpath/. No need to do any hocus pocus with this folder, just maintain images that represent the end destination of the links.

THANK YOU, everything worked out nicely. Another question:

For the sake of simplicity, consider PAGE 1, 2 and 3
PAGE 1: Homepage (a page with just thumbnail links to folders, lets say folders A, B, C)
PAGE 2: Folder A (page with thumbnails only)
PAGE 3: Image in Folder A (with a row of thumbnails beneath it)

‘Show Thumbnails’ button takes me from Page 3 to Page 2, ‘Show Image’ does the opposite. Is there a way to put a similar button system between Pages 1 ans 2? I understand that I can put a link in the drop down menu that’ll accomplish this from anywhere, but still. Thanks again.

Once you are inside a folder (basically page 2 and page 3), you toggle between them with a single button. Going back to a separate folder, the "home" folder or "start" folder if you like, is a separate process of course. As you mention, you can place a "home" link in the main menu ... The only other method would be to add folder description to images, and add a text link "home" in the descriptions. Visitors will then see a link "home" with all images in the folder.

Not really any other more intuitive relationships for creating this linkage.

OK, so you suggested adding folder description to images and a text link "home" in the descriptions. If I've got a start folder with thumbnail links (Home) to 14 folders (sub-galleries), I'd have to navigate to each of those folders and add a link to the 'Description' portion (which would apply to every image in that folder)? Ex: <a href="http://www.myurl.com" target="_self">Home</a> in the Description box. Thank you.

Almost ...

First of all, you should be using internal linking so that the entire page does not reload. You would be using something like this for your home links:
<a href="#/start/">Home</a>

Second, you would need to assign the folder description to appear with your images (not only for the folder thumbnails view). To do this, go to admin -> settings -> image.text.text1.items ... Add the folderdescription item.

Other than this, yes your thought process is correct.
