I don't understand the question here. If the top-level folder is empty, then yes just install X3 there, nothing to discuss. If it's NOT empty, then what stuff is already there? Only you know this. Keep your files and folders organized. Normally, it's fine to install X3 into folders where other files and folders already exist, but only if YOU KNOW what the existing files are there for, and they don't conflict with X3 files and folders. This should be obvious.

Depends on how you had it working before. Did you have the DE version inside the EN version? Or the EN version inside the DE version? That would be the normal approach when setting up two languages. You would select your primary language for the ROOT (root website url), and then /DE/ or /EN/ for the secondary language. There is no reason why you can't do exactly the same on the new host. Why would there be?
ed_f wrote:would that make my site work as before, just at the new adress? or will it not work, as the domain has changed?
If you install in the same dir structure as your original website, then it will work exactly like the original website. It has nothing to do with the domain name.

If it works differently for you on the new domain than the old domain, then this is because you haven't installed it in the same folder structure as the old domain.

reinstalled all freshly: first your installer, started that, all seems ok, pasted my folders as they were placed before - but I just see a green circle turning. new hoster support tells me, site must be set up with the same php-version as it was with the old one. this I do not know, now, with my new hoster, it is 8.5. your diagnostics tell this - x3 3.33.1:     29 Aug 2024 05:41:143.33.1

and as you know I cannot ask the old hoster anymore, who does not seem to have changed anything since at least a year. or is it the version used by you when I started? sorry, but I am really not in that, I am happy that with your cm-tool I am able to make a nice website. and would be really glad if you could just help me get it to work again. I know very well what I don't know!

is the only way to again and again delete all, try the php-versions one after the other including the above sequence of uploading my >4gb again and again? or can you eventually shorten this process? the order was and is: url > folder x3 > folders de and en - does it matter where to install your php? very thankful for any help _ r.

If you want me to help, you better give me login to your new host, and tell me exactly how you want it (how it was before). Your explanations here don't help, and just lack all kinds of information.
ed_f wrote:pasted my folders as they were placed before - but I just see a green circle turning.
Pasted where and from what application? You can't paste in X3, and it doesn't have a "green circle turning". So if this question is unrelated to X3, then how am I supposed to assist? Why not contact your host about this?

How does the "green circle turning" have anything to do with PHP version or even X3 at all? X3 supports PHP versions from 5.4 up to 8.3, so this should not be a problem. Most importantly, you don't yet have any errors in X3, but are reporting that you can't copy folders into location.

You need to give me your logins for your new hosting, so I can try to help set it up for you. I can't assist when there aren't any proper descriptions for what you are trying to do or what is happening, and why that is even related to X3.

PS! For your info, I do offer our own hosting service flamepix.com, specifically for X3, specifically for people like you who need it setup properly and can't do it themselves. I also offer price-match for their existing hosting services. If you still insist on using your own hosting service, that's fine, but then you should normally know the basics of managing folders and setting up X3 websites.
