MP4 Player

10 Feb 2014, 05:44

Hello :)

for privacy reasons, I'd like to use the Imagevue video player and not a common video platform like youtube or vimeo.

I have some MP4 videos, taken with my Nokia N8. all of them don't "stream" (progressive play)... the video is loading until it reach the end, and only then I can play it. I look for a solution for 2 days, tried tons of MP4 software to add parameters (move the header at the beginning, tried some streaming functions, fast start, remuxed, etc), it doesn't work : best I did was display a "preview" pic at the beginning, and video auto play few seconds before the loading reach the end...

I found some topics here which talk about this problem : this one or this other one.

my server is ok, the imagevue player can read perfectly a MP4 video I found somewhere on the internet, which "stream" like a charm. so, the problem is the Nokia N8 MP4 video.

does anyone know how to make a correct MP4 file for Imagevue ? what software should I use ? what must I do with it ?

I created a PDF file which the media infos comparison, between the file which doesn't stream and the good one : here it is ! any idea ?

thank you !
Kivlov.

ps : sorry for my poor english, hope you will understand

Hi again :)

I uploaded a test gallery with a sample video from my Nokia N8 : http://www.oxydium.com/test/.

there is the original video (test_original) and 5 examples named with the work I did on it (with MP4 Fast Start, I named it test_faststart).

and if someone want to test, here is the original video : http://www.oxydium.com/test/test_original.mp4.

I made a lot of tests (really lots...) with the help of people from VideoHelp Forums. thanks to all of them !

I saw that the video named "Butterfly" on your demo gallery has the same problem as mine : a little freeze at the beginning, about 1 second (and progress play bar moves on)... and do the same on my test gallery. this video is similar to the video I converted with HandBrake (in terms of bitrate, size, etc...), and I have some similar issues.

I'm pretty sure your demo gallery and server are correctly configured, so there is maybe something wrong with the Imagevue player, because those 2 videos perfectly play with Vimeo player !

I decided to buy this gallery because of the MP4 player... can you help me find a solution to this ?

I am reading through your initial post trying to find what the problem is, and it seems to be "videos do not start to play until they are fully loaded". Correct? We do not have this problem on our server as far as I can see ... In fact, I have diagnosed this issue once before after a lot of research, and it turned out that the "header" data output from the server did not include proper MIME data which time/length, which the player uses to anticipate the buffer rate. With this missing, the video will not play until it is fully loaded ...

Vimeo/Youtube obviously wont have this problem in the first place. There may be some new players that work around the buffering issue with other methods, but I am not sure about SWF players like the one we are using. I could only ask you to perhaps check with your server host, and compare to our server. If I was asked to diagnose, likely we would find a small difference in the header output from your server ...

I put here what I said on VideoHelp forums :

the video is here : http://www.oxydium.com/test/#/demo/, named "test_handbrake". only the first play has problems (with loading), when the video is fully loaded, there isn't any problem anymore...

so, click on the video, popup (lightbox) appears, then click "Play" button :

this is normal :D

next :

this isn't normal :(

this isn't normal either :(

I checked your demo, and all I can say is that this is related to the same issue as I posted earlier. Flash video players are fragile, and certain video header information for the file is not there. This will cause several of the aspects of the player to not work correctly, because it is miscalculating everything: playtime, buffering, position etc ... All the videos in our demo gallery don't have any problems:

For the record, this is a 3rd party mp4 that we didn't create at Imagevue. We are currently working on Imagevue X3 (see this thread), and although we will mostly focus on embed of video from 3rd-party services, we will likely offer a new module to play local videos also.

the Butterfly video has the same issue : 1s freezing, exactly as my example, at the first play / loading. that's why I said it's a player problem (with large videos) and not a video problem.

I saw that you work on X3. I'm talking for my use, I don't want 3rd party embeded videos, I need a standalone player with the gallery. I understand that many peoples don't care about sharing privacy, but I do

and I didn't see this anywhere, but I won't be able to use X3 with a X2 licence, right ? and I just bought X2...

I didnt see any problems here https://d.pr/i/8ALe. However, I do not doubt you are having issues ... could be browser and/or SWF player related?

We will certainly offer a standalone HTML5 video player with X3, no problemo. We are just opinionated towards video services, because they offer better performance, bandwidth, multiple bitrates, issue-free, and they dont hog down your own server.

Since you newly purchase, and since you are having an issue with an important feature, I will offer a free upgrade. You will need some patience though until X3 is available, and you will need to check that it suits your requirements.

You can expect a new player to be relatively flawless. Html5 provides video playback native to the browser, and we only need to add an interface javascript wrapper. Likely it will be one of these, considered industry-standard: http://mediaelementjs.com, http://jplayer.org/ or http://www.videojs.com/ ...
