Can I adjust the transition speed on the start page slideshow? I found the "transition" parameter in the theme settings but it doesn't affect the start page slideshow.

Is it possible at all?

The "start page slideshow" is basically a very simple module, and you can change the interval between slides, but not adjust the transition itself. If you need more control of the slideshow, you need to consider setting up a normal gallery slideshow for this page instead, and using parameters to adjust what elements you want visible on screen. You would need to set your start page folder as normal "gallery" to achieve this, and then add several parameters ... This is covered here:

I'm gonna stick with the normal start page since a rather have the simpler look of the slideshow going on by itself than a normal gallery with all the controls showing right on the home page...

You can disable controls with folder parameters, just like in this example:
