Image Title handling

28 Nov 2012, 08:51

Currently when an image is uploaded if the Title field is left blank by the user the file name (minus extension) will be placed in the Title field. While this may be useful to some users who compose a file name to be a valid title but if not the displayed title contains information of negligible value to the viewer. It would be nice to have a settings parameter that would allow the Title field to remain blank. I use a go-around of overtyping a space in theTitle field but that is a go-around.

I am not quite sure what you are trying to achieve here. Basically it works like this: Title originally inherits filename, but you can then edit title separately from file name. There will always be a title, and there is no reason it should be empty ... If you want to hide titles from the gallery, then this is done in settings, not by having empty titles. A file always has a title, either it is the filename or a custom title!

I know I cam hide titles by the Settings file but I wamt some galleries with a title and others without. I also undersat that right now there is always a tilte but this does not make it rght or desireable. As I stated file names generally do not make good titles, file names such as _mg_6789.jpg are a good example.

The only reason we have titles in the first place, is to support characters and longer strings that are not possible to have in the filename. So basically, this is just like an alias for the filename ... Just like a file always has a name, so will the title. You can choose to display it or not, but the name will always exist ...

So you want the title available only in a few folders? Then use folder parameters to allow title to display in some folders ...
