Moving installation directory

20 Nov 2012, 18:30

Hi,

my client was a user of v1 and has returned from using other flash software - he's upgraded to v2 and loves it. :D

at the moment, he has it installed in a folder called 'test' while he is testing the software...

when we take the site live, i'll have to move it to the root folder of the site - will that just be a case of ftp-ing the 'test' directory to a local drive and then re-upping its contents to the main directory ? are there any config changes i'll have to make ?

also, a lot of the documentation makes reference to uploading images for text pages, logos etc to 'iv-config' - but unless i've missed it, there is no way to do this from within imagevue and must be done via ftp... for my design client and I that isn't a problem, but would it not be easier to recommend making a folder via the Admin panel, e.g called 'site graphics', uploading the site logos & banners etc, hiding the folder and then images can be referenced in the usual way... that way, for those with little ftp experience, it would allow them to do everything from within imagevue.

as both 'content' and 'iv-config' are not affected by upgrades, it shouldn't matter which is used.

btw - there is a 2.8.5.1 in the downloads area, but isn't mentioned in the updatelog or the dashboard - I assume its not a critical update?

This should be fine, although you may need to re-apply some permissions to required folders like iv-config and content.

A logo is basically a part of your theme background (although there is a new option to have a logo over the menu), so we dont really want to clutter the admin with folders for uploading a single file, especially since its part of a theme that already has a folder and contains the other theme files. Besides this, you can already upload files to the theme folder once you are in theme edit mode, click "Upload background image". Not quite sure what you mean by "banners" ... As for textpages, the resolution is simple: A textpage is technically a folder just like any other menu item ... Although its set to textpage, you can still upload images into this folder like any other gallery folder, which can then be accessed by the textpage editor. I believe it makes sense that the images that you want in this text page should be available in the same specific folder? No need to use FTP for that.

thanks for the reply.

permissions weren't a problem when I installed - didn't need to change them to 777 as the default permissions worked ok... got a suhosin error (tried the fixes - none worked), but it doesn't seem to be affecting functionality.

re textpages - yes, that makes sense... my client deleted the original textpage and image b4 I got to view the code properly, so didn't know there was an image in there by default... still think it would be a useful option to have a theme graphics upload option that puts either in the theme folder or the root of iv-config - I could upload a background image, but not icons, or the logo above menu - that would have to be done via ftp... for me that's not a problem, but I just think from a software design point that it would be useful to be able to do it from within imagevue.

by banners, I specifically meant the 492px default image that is used at the top of the installed textpage.

anyway, thanks for answering my question.
