I have tried everything I could find in the forums about this...

I would need to have a video on the start page that starts by itself, but doesn't enter lightbox, so that the whole startpage appears in full with logo, menu etc..., and the visitor doesn't have to click outside to continue browsing.

Could anybody tell me if this is possible or not?

Videos are played in the lightbox by default, because this supports an external player that is more powerful. You can use the internal player, but then it will only support the FLV format (not mp4). To do this, go to admin -> settings -> misc.video.external_player, and disable it.

You may also need to set a few folder parameters to remove any unwanted navigation interface elements on your start page. See here https://www.photo.gallery/documentation/folder-parameters/ and scroll down to the "Video start page" example.

Personally, I think the lightbox solution would be much more elegant. Its clean, supports all formats, no need for folder parameters to reset stage UI elements, supports Youtube/Vimeo, and closes on the click outside the lightbox OR on the "close" button ... I think this is pretty obvious.

Can I use an iframe on the home page to support this?

To get around the lightbox issue? (of having to rely on visitor to click to open and play)

I am not sure what that means "use iframe on home page". Technically, the lightbox is exactly that, an iframe overlaying Imagevue ... which in some sense looks like its inside Imagevue.

Why do you want to "get around" the lightbox issue? You can have lightbox open on the start page without any click, and personally I find it more elegant than any other solution.
