Set maximum height of thumbnails

Hi,
is there a possibility to limit the height of the thumbnails on the mobile device, like the "resizetobox" option for the flash version?
I have some very high, narrow pics and the thumbnails basically get stretched to the same size as the regular picture. Looks bad and messes up the layout.

(and no, "croptobox" option is unacceptable to my mum as valuable parts of her pictures would be lost

)
TiA!

I see the problem, but how are you going to "limit the height" without cropping the image? If you want to limit the height without cropping the image, it would mean reducing the width also ... So it would mean having much smaller thumbnails, which would then be ultra-thin on a mobile device and even hard to click ... and then you would just have more space around it? It doesnt make sense. The mobile gallery adds 3 thumbnail columns, and this can be adjusted in settings, but it will obviously utilize the full width avaialble to spread out the amount of thumbnails, and this by using the thumbnail width.
You cant limit the height of the image, without cropping it in height. If you limit the height without cropping it, that would mean you would need to proportionally limit the width also ... If you are limiting the width, then what are you going to do, just have lots of empty space between thumbnails and super-small thumbnails?
This is an unfortunate result of using such extreme proportions in your thumbnails. As for the thumbnails, one may ask: Why it is popular these days to crop thumbnails into consistent sizes? Primarily because a visitor is not actually viewing or studying the thumbnails ... The thumbnails are supposed to give an idea or a concept of the item the visitor is going to click. It does not need to contain the entire aspect of the photo, because this will be available when viewing the full size image anyway. Then of course, consistent thumbnails sizes offer a much more esthetic design and layout.
