Just checked your videos, they play fine on iPhone 4 but don't work on iPhone 3G, indeed. It might be caused by the fact that the video is a bit too large for iPhone 3 or maybe some other factors, can't say for sure.

I would recommend you to try Handbrake (handbrake.fr) it is a free converter, has lots of presets and didn't let me down yet. For starters I would try to encode a video with a smaller target resolution. Or maybe simpy switching to a different encoder would be enough.

Its a bit sad that you need to downscale size to have it work on older phones like iPhone 3GS, but apparently this is a fact. Your only other option, would be to upload the video to Youtube or Vimeo, which server multiple instances/sizes of the video, to suit device and/or bandwidth.
