I try to change the date of the folders created. I would like to be displayed as the date of the event that it contains not the creation date.
This is possible? If so how?

Well, this is not entirely logical because DATE is the time the folder was created, not necessarily linked to the date of the event (although it could be depending on your uploading). To set your choice of dates, you have the following options:
1. Simply drag and drop your folders into custom sorting.
2. Create filenames for your folders with date in them, for example 20111224_christmas (yyyymmdd_name), and then you can sort by name. For the actual visible title, you can change it to something more human readable like just "Christmas".
