Newbie General question on "install-setup"

Hi there :)
I was searching for a new software for my photo gallery on my website. I'm not a "guru" in html and I absolutely don't know anything about Flash. I did my website with a lot of difficulty and very very slow........
Now I'm rebuilding all my site and I want some more than jAlbum because I need to have password on some album and I want to have more text and quotes for every album or pics.
I found you and ImageVue X2 and it seems to be a good choice for me but........
For what I have understood I cannot build and check my album in my local drive. Is it really so?
My complete gallery is more than 5000 pics and about 200 folders (in tree). I need to match the album with the color of my website for the black background and the orange font and for sure working online on my server it's not easy. I normally build all in local, I check everything here then I upload all via FTP on my server.
Is this possible? This is my first question because I think if that is possible, I'll need more help. :)
Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english.
Lio

Imagevue is a WEB application, meaning it is made for displaying your photos on a website, from a web server. You can only run it on your "local drive" if you are running a local PHP server.

Well, you certainly can edit backgrounds and colors, but you can not create this locally unless your computer is running Wamp or Mamp (PHP server). You would have to edit it online ... You need to simply change the settings- and theme settings from the admin, and then edit the CSS stylesheet to change text style. More info:

I would recommend uploading the gallery to your website, and then before you add your folders and images, do the theme customization.

Karl, Thanks for your reply :)
So I should upload the gallery program (ImageVue X2) in my website and then my picture.
I have not yet seen the program (I'm asking for information before buying to make sure to do the right thing) so I have no idea about it. But If I upload the program how can I create the right tree in my album and add or move the pictures from one folder to another changing the thumbs slide and so on? As you can see by this partial screenshot, there are several folders and subfolders.......

I'm asking because my server is in a different country from where I live ( I'm in Canada but the server in Italy) and unfortunately the upload speed is painful. So to reupload all my pictures folder will be a pain and also to move them on the server if there is something wrong when I'll test it. The total size is about 1.5 GB.
Is the program you are speaking (Wamp Server) the same needed for testing the Wordpress blog in local? I'm working to understand how it work because of I have to integrate the blog too on my site.
Unfortunately I fear it is a job beyond my abilities  :? and here I cannot have any help.
Thanks for your time.

The cool thing about Imagevue, is that you can just upload the same structure as you have on your harddrive into your Imagevue "content" folder, and it will display appropriately in the gallery and menu. There would be no need to move/copy files around, because it will be identical to the structure you have locally if you upload it like that.

1.5GB? We recommend that you resize all images for the web before you upload. Why? Because not only does it take ages to upload 1.5GB, but your visitors will need to wait for full size images to load also through the web. Your images should be resized to something between 800-1200px length ... You can get applications to do this, and it may take a few hours to batch-resize all your images. Were you thinking of upload images at full size? How large are each of your images?

Exactly. It is like a little PHP server on your own computer, that can run server applications like Wordpress and Imagevue etc. Yes, it does require some technical knowledge to set up properly, or at least you can expect some frustrations on the way ...

You can download a Trial version of Imagevue here:

I 'm working on Wamp trying to see what I have to do, for now I installed the server and now I have to understand what I have to do with ImageVue (thanks for the trial link). Maybe I have to put all the folder somewhere  :? .....
For the resizing, the image are already resized in Photoshop and saved for the web, but they are 6830 in 86 folders and the album size is now 1GB.
It's impossible to resized more, the most part of them are from a Canon 5d and canon 5d mark ii, so I resized them a lot :D
The dimension I give in generally at Genuine Fractals is for image with 1040 max lenght and 850 max Height (for the horizontal and vertical one). And I saved at medium quality 30% .
Any suggestion to do a better job?
Anyway, for now, thanks for your help, but for sure I'll be back with other question :D

No your resizing sounds fine ... I just wanted to make sure, because some users just upload their ~4MB 4000px images directly - They don't know that they basically need to resize them. Good luck!
