Hi,

I have been busy adding a lot of my photography to my site over this past few months, and I am just getting back to working on the function of it.
I currently have ver 2.1.4.1 and see the latest ver is 2.1.7

I would like to update but want to first make sure my site will basically work as it currently does.
if I do the update do I have to watch out for anything??

I also have 3 features I am trying to add:

1. I want to start key wording my images with the hopes that is how they will be found by Google, etc. I found this on the forum:

Just for the record, to set the description tag in imagevue, you go to admin -> settings -> SEO.description ... Add your description here.

When I go to admin>settings> there is no SEO.description... i am assuming that is because I am not on the current release. is this correct?

2. Is there anyway to allow visitors to leave comments?

3. While I am working on adding new albums (folder) I use the "hide the folder" feature until I am ready to release it. This works fine, but I would like to maybe allow a few people access to view it before I open to the general public. Is there anyway to do this?

I have a commercial site license and my Imagevue section of my site is:

Thanks so much for your help on any of this

This should not be a problem. The upgrade overwrites the new program files, but keeps your content and your custom configurations!

YES, you will need to upgrade Imagevue to edit this settings. However, the description tag is basically only used by google to describe your site when it shows up in the search engine. It is not used to locate your images, or your page ... The only way to improve google to find your images in imagevue, would be to create a title and/or description, and even the filename itself may have some impact!

Comments per image? No ... But we are planning to integrate a GUESTBOOK in the next major release, so they would be able to leave a general comment for your website/gallery ...

Yes ... Simply give them the direct link to the folder, for example:
yourgallery/?startpath=content/hidden_folder_name/

Based on my own experience, I believe google will find your main flash page, then if the html side in enabled it will find galleries, text pages, and the sitemap (if enabled).

It won't index the image pages though. Google doesn't like the IV HTML image pages for some reason. So your image descriptions won't generate web / text searches.

But, Google may index your images for "image search" if you name them well. Use actual/related titles for file names as opposed to original file names. So "DSC_103094.jpg" becomes "Alcatraz-Island-San-Francisco.jpg". Of coarse may know this already, in which case my apology's for assuming you may not -;)
