Menu-item tooltip

If I move the mouse over menu-items I get tooltip-boxes.
Is it possible to disable these boxes ?

I believe you mean the folder descriptions.
You can disable this in admin:
Go to Settings, Menu, Main Menu, Folder description, and uncheck enable.

And if we want to remove the empty space between the menu and the gallery, how do we do this?

Not quite sure what empty space you are talking about. What are you referring to as "the gallery" here?
