Thumbnails dimension

15 Oct 2009, 04:23

Hi Karl, Nick.

The thumbnail "link" feature is great, I am using it to navigate the site by geographical area: http://www.marcobrivio.com/IMVX2/#/content/AE/

It would be very nice to use different thumbnails size according to their use. I mean: if the thumbnails are used in a classic way (to open a bigger picture), their size could be the size specified in config admin, while if they are used as a link (to go to a different folder of images), I would like to specify a bigger dimension.

Do you think this feature may be useful and feasible ?

Kind regards,
Marco

Well.. I can offer this way, although it require some steps.

1. Create temp folder in the one you going to process name it for example 'Big thumbs'
2. Mark and copy images you want with big thumbs to this subfolder
3. Change thumbnails size in settings to a bigger one
4. Go back to this folder and re-create thumbnails in it
5. Copy everything back and delete the empty folder.

Something like this. This way you'll get mixed thumbnails in one folder. That if I managed to understand correctly what you want to achieve..

You mean you want different size thumbnails in a specific folder? If so, you gotta follow suggestion from Nick.

If you want different size thumbnails ranging across different folders(but same size thumbnails in a single folder), then I have an easier approach ...

In your case, it seems to me that your folders with thumbnails are either one of the following:
#1 - LINKS to actual galleries with pictures
#2 - Normal thumbnails that link to the picture itself

If the above is true, then why not just create bigger thumbnails for your LINKS pages?
1. Go to admin -> settings -> thumbnails.thumbnail. resizetype/boxwidth/boxheight. Simply change the thumbnails settings here.
2. Go to admin -> manage the folder where you have links and what bigger(or what you want) thumbnails. Click "re-create thumbnails for this folder".
3. Repeat the step above for any folders where you want large thumbnails.
