Wondering if possible to add an unintrusive horizontal menu at the top of the screen so users can easily leave the imagevuex interactive and get back to other parts of the site. That way the user never feels lost within the site nor trapped in the slideshow. An alternative to adding links to the side menu.

Sorry, I dont see the difference here between a side menu and a top menu. Can ´t you add the same links to the side menu as you propose to add to the top menu? What "parts of your site" can you access with a top menu that you can ´t access through a side menu?
