Hi there,

Because i have a lot of pictures with big sizes. I'm thinking of resizing some pictures.
Therefore i would like to know which tool do you use to resize pictures in batch.

I hope to hear from you guys / girls soon.

Yes, I think it ´s normally necessary to resize pictures prior to upload, at least from todays digital cameras, which have image sizes way beyond the size/filesize required for viewing on normal screen and on the web.

On PC, I believe there are many solutions. Personally, I used Irfanview, which is a free small image browser that also has a nice batch-resizing function. You can also use the software that comes with digital cameras, for example canon ´s zoombrowser, which has an "export" function to batch resize files. In windows Vista, I would suspect there was some native batch-resize function, but I can not say for sure ...

On Mac, you can simply use "iphoto" with the file -> export function, to export an event or any library, to another folder. You will have to options on resizing and compression.

I might add, that we do have vision of creating a simple Imagevue-upload client, that takes the task of resizing images and uploading to your gallery at the same time.

This almost looks like the same option within Windows live photogallery.
The biggest problem i have with it. is that is changes the name of the picture to something like pictures01 (small).jpg. This is something i dont like. But thanks for mentioning it.

yeah, you're right.
it will add to the picturename like "(small)", "(medium)" or "(large)"

Is this something you guys / girls are already building or planning ?
In the case of planning I'm happily willing to help you out.
I don't know which technique you're going to use but my guess is Adobe air ?
In this way you can focus on the things to-do within Imagevuex itself.

Yes, most likely some Adobe AIR combo. Its currently just ideas, as we are already juggling too many balls.

You are familiar with AIR/Flash then I guess?

Mainly, we were thinking of a simple client to upload images through the FTP protocol, but without having to resize the images prior to upload. The client will resize on-the-fly, and uploading should be more consistent than using the web interface. Perhaps it can also support basic folder management also, and even other functions, but I think it should be kept simple.

I'll see what and how fast i can build a basic functional app.
Design is by far not my strongest point so it will be functional only.
When I have something finished i'll let you guys / girl know.

Hey I just signed up because I'm very curious about this App. It seems pretty easy to do. I mean, Air is just a wonder to use.

Any development on this? I am very curious.

Currently there is no development from my side.
I'm still waiting on mjau-mjau if they are going to build it.
But i think they are real busy with the new admin interface.
If mjau-mjau says they are not going to build it. i'l' see what i can do.

Why not use some free imageviewing program meanwhile, they all have batch resizing capabilities, I'd recommend XnView:

ya ive been using irfanview. but like when set up imagevue for a client, telling him to use irfanview means several more steps.

anyway, i dont know much about Air, figured it would be quick and dirty to do.

Tell me about this new admin section. What are you guys after? The admin section so far is amazing all ready. I cant imagine what youre trying to change?

Have you heard of the FREE album software JAlbum ??? I have used it for a long time, previously, it allows you to specify the size of images it uploads, and resizes on-the-fly, maintaining the filename and very good quality... ok, it means making an album, once the images are in it's "my albums" folder, they can all be the same size, good quality and easily ported into ImagevueX.. I must say, I have done it a few times !!! you can, in the "options" dialogue, set the resolutions and quality to many configurations, and not use the 'upload' feature, which will then save everything to where you tell it... then point ImagevueX to where the files are !!!!
