It would be wonderful if folders had a release date attribute, this way I could configure a folder today and upload all of the images now - although not have it go public until whenever.

You can use 'Hide/Unhide folder' for that matter. It's not automatic, but will do just fine.

I believe it's the automation that I was looking for as I typically combine photo albums (folders) with WordPress posts.

We could add something like that, but so far you are the first person mentioning this...
