completely confused about starting to use the software

Hi. I am a new user of your software, having just bought in yesterday to try it out. I spent a week reviewing your data before making the plunge.
I am finding the whole thing very confusing. (I deal with software regularly including Dreamweaver and hard-coded html, in addition to various 3D, CAD, video editing, and other applications, so I don't think I am at the beginner level).
The documentation that there is on your site is somewhat contradictory. I started with the docs that are downloadable that turned out to be for v1 although this is not fully clear that the v2 procedures for startup are a little different. Finally I stumbled on the v2 docs. These also are confusing.
Let me explain. In your quickstart guide, it is not clear which directory is being referred to at any time. In step 3 you appear to be loading the imagevue folder into a sub-directory generically called {gallery folder name} but you don't keep this generic name in step 4 where you call it {yourgallery} then in step 5 it goes back to {gallery folder name} again. It took me several readings of the instructions before I worked this out. It is never at any point clear exactly where the content folders need to reside in order to be accessed by the software. I tried several different locations including a seperate content folder then tried putting it in imagevue's main folder itself. I think now that this is where they should go, but I'm still unsure. It never explicitly states in the docs where this content should be.
It took me a half hour on the phone with my server tech provider to figure out that I need to address the admin page by going to mydomain/imagevue/ or mydomain/imagevue/index.php. When I got in, it allowed me to add a new admin. All well and good but I could not get any slideshow or gallery page to appear, although it did seem to see the content folder. Because of the above noted difficulty with the instructions, I tried moving the entire imagevue folder to other locations in the site but nothing seemed to help.
After trying it in a few other locations trying to get it to work, I put the imagevue folder back in my main httpdocs folder, which was where it functioned initially. I made sure that the entire folder and subfolders were set to permissions 777. Nothing worked.
In desperation, I erased the imagevue folder and re-uploaded it completely and reset all permissions to 777.
I could not get to the admin page by addressing mydomain/imagevue or mydomain/imagevue/index.php. Instead, I either got a 404 error or the browser window hung. My server tech told me to clear my browser cache and try again. This time I was able to get the admin window and sign in with admin/admin but the user panel was blank. There was no list of authorised admins or options to add any. I tried other tabs. When I tried diagnostic, I got this message in a red box...
A PHP Error was encountered
Severity: Warning
Message: opendir(/var/www/vhosts/smarttinc.com/httpdocs/_private/) [function.opendir]: failed to open dir: Permission denied
Filename: /imagevue/include/functions.inc.php
Line Number: 40
Also, under this red box, at the top of the screen was a line that said...
You have default password for 'admin' user. You need to change it here
but clicking that link got me an error HTTP 500 screen. I have not been able to get any further.
Thinking that I had not properly uploaded the folder, I erased and re-uploaded the entire imagevue folder again and reset all permissions to 777. I had to clear all the caches and restart the browser again to get back to the admin page or else I got 404 errors again but the same conditions persist. No way to change the password or add admins so no point in proceeding further at this time until this is resolved.
In brief, I bought this software with the intent of putting a number of slideshows embedded in html page content in my site, which your promotional documentation says I can do. Most software that I have done well with, even shareware or 3rd party tryouts as well as major manufacturer, has basic walkthrough step-by-step procedures to accomplish tasks and some manner of searchable help to find these tutorials. If your software has any beyond what resides in the v2docs on your site, I cannot find it. The demo links in the v2docs are very exciting and they really impressed me, but with no way to tell the end-user how they are accomplished, they really are not useful.
Please help me get the most out of your software.
