Best size to save images for viewing

What would be the best size to save images for viewing in imagevue site to get best quality for visitors.

Something not very big, check flickr.com for example. They not using super big images. Although you can see original, its not by default and not very useful.

I like images relatively big, but that may be because I have a large monitor that can display them unspoiled. I would recommend perhaps 800px long side, or 1024px if you are ambitious!

Thanks for input. I am assuming 72ppi would be the resolution?

Yes - Screens will only relate to the pixel resolution anyway.
