How to permalink to slideshow *without* start image in url?

03 Mar 2009, 14:21

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how to use links to my slideshows (which start with images, not the thumbs/gallery), so that the linked URL does *not* contain the start image file name.
The reason is that I am frequently updating & reordering the images in my slideshows, especially my highlights portfolio, and thus the first image in the show is different -- making any linked URL which specifies the image suddenly no good.

Example, my link to start my Cuba slideshow is currently:
http://gpmalone.com/galleries/#/content ... 6.web.jpg/
The next time I reorder my Cuba slideshow, that link which is used on various pages outside of IVX, will no longer work.

I want to use a permalink like:
http://gpmalone.com/galleries/#/content/cuba/
and have this always start with whatever the first image is in the slideshow. Currently such a link only goes to the thumbs/gallery page...

I do have my config set to start on 'image' not 'thumbnails,' but that only affects the slideshow specified in startpath -- not all the other slideshows as well...

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks!

well, i am not quite sure what you mean here ... As you are pointing out yourself, using "/#/content/folder" will go directly to a folder, while "/#/content/folder/image.jpg/" will go directly to an image in that folder.

This works INDEPENDENT from the startmode setting, because you are using a link to point to a specific image OR folder.

Sorry, I'll try to explain it differently.
I want to have one permanent link that starts the image slideshow (*not the thumbnails), regardless of changes to which is the first image.
If I use http://gpmalone.com/galleries/#/content ... 6.web.jpg/ as my link from external pages, emails, etc. -- then as soon as I use a different image as the first in the slideshow, that link will no longer work.
So I'm looking for a way to have permalinks to start the slideshow, without a specified image file name in the URL.

It would be great if a logical URL like http://gpmalone.com/galleries/#/content/cuba/ would work, but if there's another way with a different URL, that would be fine...

Thanks Karl!

Sorry for the late reply here ...
You can sue this instead:
http://gpmalone.com/galleries/?startpath=content/cuba/

It targets a specific start folder, and it will use the STARTMODE set in config. The #address method doesn't work like that because it simply targets the item, be it an image or a folder. Startmode just forwards a path, and then its up to the config if its gonna start in thumbnails mode or imagemode.

Awesome pics in your gallery!
