Custom image as slideshow frame?

13 Feb 2009, 13:01

Hi, is it possible to trick out IV to use a custom jpg image as the frame (and/or frame border) in the slideshow?
I'd like to make my own textured picture frame and have it surround the image. It would resize/stretch to fit the image, similar to how a fullscreen background resizes with 'exact fit' sizing...

I haven't found a way, but it would be quite cool....

Yes, I agree this would be cool ... You mean you would make some PNG/SWF variant that had some cluttered edges on the outside?

Hi Karl,
I'm afraid I don't know anything (yet) about PNG/SWF variants, but the concept is that I could take any rectangular image (jpg or otherwise), and have that be used as the 'frame' which is currently a flat color wash. This image would stretch & compress to fit the size & proportions of the enclosed image. The 'frame size' variable would determine how many pixels of the underlying frame image would be shown.

If you take a look at the custom background I made for my gallery, you'll see an example of the kind of frame I'd like to use. The difference would be that instead of being a static full frame image in the background, it would size down to fit the images...

Is there currently a way I can hack this through a config file or something (providing a path to an image as opposed to a frame color)?

Thanks Karl!

Unfortunately, it is not as easy to integrate as you perhaps would have wanted. There are a few problems -

If you are going to scale an image as a frame, it will scale in all proportions loosing its aspect and i thnk it might look a little weird ...

Yeah, I thought about that, and I see where the problems could show up... But, I could conceivably make an amorphous enough texture that might not show the aspect stretching etc. too badly.

Oh well, it's not life-threatening!

Thanks
