Thumbnails and uploads in new folders

04 Dec 2008, 19:21

Hello,
I have some big issues when it comes to using folders other than those that came along with the beta install. I have searched for answers to my problem on the forum but hasn't been able to find any solution to it. So here it goes:

I have a fresh install of the latest v2 beta on http://onshore.se/photography/gallery/
When I add pictures to one of three folders that was included in the fresh install, everything works fine. Uploads works fine as well as making thumbnails and so on. It's flawless.

The problems begin when I create a subfolder from admin or when I create a new folder on the same level as those three mentioned above. The new folders are created with permissions 777 but no folderdata.xml is created so I cannot enter any folder info in admin. However, if I copy a folderdata.xml from another folder and delete any info that's not valid, it works good to enter info about the folder and save the information.

On top of that, I am not able to upload any pictures to the newly created folder. I get the following message: Error [IOErrorEvent type="ioError" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="Error #2038: File I/O Error. URL: http://onshore.se/photography/gallery/i ... t/Pictures 4/"]. If I instead upload a picture with ftp to the problem folder, I am not able to create any thumbnails. A stylish fileicon is what I get instead.

Just to be sure, I have put more or less my whole domain into mode 777, but it hasn't helped. It's so strange that it works in the "default folders" but not in any added folders. And if I duplicate one of the default folders and rename it via ftp, it works fine with uploads and thumbs.

I can create and delete folders from admin so permissions seem to be ok. The error report got a bit messy but I hope it makes sense.

What the heck is my problem and how can I solve it?

Just to add a little extra mystery to it - in a subfolder to the duplicated folder mentioned above, it was possible to both upload and create thumbnails by adding a folderdata.xml from another folder. At the same time, it was not possible to do the same thing to another subfolder to the same parent folder even though I followed the exact same procedure. Something is very strange.

Strange that recently people started to appear with same issue on their servers, folders are 777 but unwritable and unreadable by php. There is nothing we can do about it unfortunately, this is some misconfiguration of usergroups/usermasks and permissions on their site.

You have to adress it to your hosting provider and ask them to fix that once and for all.

Thank you for your reply Mr Pain. Would you suggest that I point in a certain direction when I contact my hosting provider? I'm thinking about any likely causes why this issue occurs.

Final notice: I tried moving the gallery pholder from one webhotel to another and it worked like a charm without changing any files. I should have tried this at once to isolate the root cause.

Hello, I am back again. My web host can't seem to find the problem here so I have a follow up question:

When a new folder is created, folderdata.xml should be created as well, right? Should I get some kind of error code here? At least, it is not created whenever I create a new folder from the admin section in V2. I get a green message saying "Folder succesfully created" but since folderdata.xml is missing, it's not successful to me. On the other web host, it is created but I am trying to work out why it isn't created here... I really would like this beaty up and running.

Strange that your hosting support cannot fix it, this is something with user groups, umasks settings.

If it says folder created - it is created. Folderdata is created not right away, but after you edit title for example.

Did you tried to actually change anything there?

Could you provide me with ftp login and password to take a look?

It seems like I have found the problem: All folders created by Imagevue gets "httpd" as owner and group instead of "onshore" as it should be (like it is for all uploaded folders). Upon notifying my web host about my findings, they instructed me how to reset all file rights by using the control panel and now it works. Hooray!

I found a discussion regarding the matter on the following link in case someone is running their own server and have a similar problem http://www.forum.psoft.net/showthread.p ... hown+httpd

For the record - here's how it shouldn't look (Thanks a bunch for your time Pain!):
