Latest V2 version installed (15th October).

From the home of Imagevue, with no folder/images selected, if I click the "thumbnail button" in main controls, I get the following error:

ok, I guess this is a logical paradox ... There should always be an active folder. There is a setting "startfolder" in your config which decides where your gallery starts. Obviously, you have set this to "contentfolder" (which doesn't contain images) or to another folder that doesn't exist.

Why don't you point the startfolder to the folder you want to be shown at start? Optionally, you could point it to a textpage with some basic intro-information. You can also "hide" your startfolder from the main menu if that is desired.

I have 'solved' the problem as you suggested, presenting an "about me page", but I partially agree with you. Why should always be an active folder ?
I see Imagevue as a repository of images categorized in a tree structure and it is up to the visitor the choice of a particular folder. To me, the entire "content" is the starting folder !
