horizontal menu option

03 Sep 2008, 07:34

In Imagevue release 20080903, we added the option to make the menu horizontal. This is currently an experimental setting with several restrictions that will require some effort and patience from those who want to use it.

To put it short, the mechanics of a horizontal menu and a vertical menu are very different. Making the main menu work in both ways has required some restrictions, especially taking into the consideration all the settings for the main menu.

How to set it?
To set your menu horizontally, simply go to your theme config -> menu.mainmenu.submenu_style, and set it to "horisontal".

When using the horizontal menu, The following settings are set automatically and variations will be ignored from the theme config:
Code
mainmenu.menuback.opacity._value = 0;
mainmenu.menuback.opacity_rollover._value = 0;
mainmenu.horizontal_margin._value = 1;
mainmenu.vertical_margin._value = 1;
mainmenu.autohide._value = false;
mainmenu.close_same_level._value = true;
mainmenu.indent._value = 0;
Other issues
# Your are yourself responsible for keeping your menu width within boundaries of the screen width.

# In your theme config try setting the following value to get automatic size(width) of the menu item element:
mainmenu.menuitem.minimum_width._value = 0;

# The horizontal menu currently only supports 2 tiers/levels of subfolders. Any deeper levels will not display correctly.

Something like this:

*outdated link removed*

That example isn't very good, because as you can see the menu items aren't set up to support a horizontal menu. There are too many items, and too many sublevels.

Unfortunately, the horizontal menu doesn't support this yet. We hope to provide a new dedicated horizontal menu option in a release this spring.

It occurred to me that Spring can happen at different times depending on your location in the world... :D

Sorry, that link wasn ´t working any longer because URL parameters don ´t work like that anymore.

In the forthcoming major release, you will be able to see an example with the new multiple configs, but then again we hope to provide an entirely separate horizontal menu for next release. Sorry, we cant provide any demo of this right now ...

When will the release be avaiable? I'm interested on imagevue, but need the horizontal menu.

If you want, I can give you a demo of the existing horizontal menu, if you can contact me on MSN so we can do it swiftly. I cant set up a separate gallery currently just for the horizontal menu.

Of course, as this post explains from the top, the current horizontal menu is very limited.

New release, some time in the Autumn.

I haven't purcashed yet, so i guess i won't be able to see the demo you are offering.

I guess I'll have to wail until the new version is realased or find an alternative design or galery.

Regards.

Mind if I beat a (possibly) dead horse?

Center option for horizontal menu possible or planned?

Updating site first time in almost a year and thought I'd try a few new looks...

Thanks!

Its still planned, and when we release a dedicated horizontal menu, it should have a few good options too. Until then, I think you should just avoid the horizontal menu unless you are happy with a relatively crude version
