FLV video

With the release of Imagevue V2 20080903, we added support for the FLV video format. See video examples in the demo gallery:
https://www.photo.gallery/soda/#/content ... les/video/

Because standard web servers can not create thumbnails for FLV video format, Imagevue displays a default generic FLV icon instead.

FLV is a video format that is native to flash, and can therefore be displayed directly in the Imagevue gallery. Other video file types are not supported, although they can be integrated to be downloaded or viewed in a new window(separately from the Imagevue gallery). Read more on the FLV format here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_Video

Because FLV/video is different in many ways from normal image filetypes(jpg, png, gif), the context properties for FLV files in Imagevue are restricted. Imagebuttons and right-clicking an FLV video/thumbnail will display other options than those available when right-clicking an image.

FLV videos in Imagevue are 'progressive' and not true 'streaming' because the servers running Imagevue are not streaming servers.

- Do you know a good conversion tool to make .flv in a good quality and a small file size?

- Is it possible to make the thumbnails yourself for each movie?

Yes, we just changed thumbnails generation scheme for next release, it will create default thumbs for non-image file types and you can create your own thumbnails

For Videos with sound it would be great to have an option to mute the gallery background music while playing the video. What do you think about?

Is it possible to port videos right from youtube, vimeo, or another video host provider through imagevue?

Not RIGHT from youtube, but you can use service like www.keepvid.com to download flv from youtube and put into your gallery. In next release you could also add custom thumbnails for flv files.

Mac / Safari users can download directly from youtube. While the video is loading within the browser choose "Window > Downloads" to view the "activity" window.

From there you should be able to find the download URL. Look for a file approx 2 - 6 MB-ish actively buffering, click the URL in the activity window, and the downloading stream is placed in OSX's "downloads" folder.

It may work on Safari for Windows too. I'm not 100% though as I haven't tried it.

Yea, well, there are some other ways too, for any browser around.

When you need quickly get video - keepvid is THE way.

Yes. Tried it last night. Very useful. I like that a higher res version can be downloaded along with an flv file. Thanks.

I am not quite sure what you mean "flv thumbnail creation module" - Unfortunately, PHP can not create thumbnails from FLV unless there is a specific server module enabled. The reason why youtube and every other video sharing site has thumbnails is because they control their own server and can therefore simply install this mod. Average servers running Imagevue do not have this mod.

With the latest release 20081015, you can create your own thumbnails for FLV files. For a file "myvideo.flv", simply create a file "tn_myvideo.jpg".
