Customisable menu?

11 Aug 2008, 08:35

Hi again :)

Is it going to be possible to edit the main menu's behaviours?

For example, if I want to have it as a horizontal menu rather than a drop down.

I know it's font and content can be changed but I'm more a fan of horizontal menus rather than verticals :)

Good question. I was already playing around with making the menu horizontal ...

The main problem, is that with so many settings for the mainmenu, it requires a certain "combination" of settings to work properly, and would easily break by some incorrect setting. I will look into this later!

A horizontal menu would be nice. Although I think that the portfolio-part of the menu should be vertical. Then you'd get something like home / contact / portfolio, where the home and contact buttons are linked to textpages, and the portfolio part would slide out vertical. That way it's easier to create large galleries.

This is not of critical importance now, but it would be nice somewhere in the future :)

I don't see how you would want to fit both a horizontal and a vertical menu on the same page. Not only will they cross eachother in the top left corner, but I think it may be confusing and may not look nice either.

My idea is to choose between horizontal or vertical. For example, if you are a photographer making a site - Make 4 sections "About", "Portfolio", "Links" and "Contact". The portfolio-section contains subfolders(at any depth) of all your photos, while the other 3 items are simply textpages. We could even integrate some CSS styles so that the "Portfolio" item stands out compared to the 3 other items ...

It's not exactly both menu's, but only a horizontal menu like on this page. However when moving over the button Portfolio, the gallery options slide out vertically directly below the portfolio button. Something like on www.asus.com, but then in Flash.

So it's one menu which works in two directions. :)

oh ok... I see what you mean. I guess I still qualify that as a horizontal menu, since its main layout is horizontal ...

We will consider something in those relams, but not immediately ...

Great, doesn't have to be implemented immediately, but just would be great if it would be someday. I understand that there are other request that have more importance right now.
For example, the panorama request I posted earlier  (just kiddin' 8) )

I was thinking in similar terms (possibly, that online example isn't showing now). Say a main menu that is horizontal...something like:

Home / Gallery / About / Email

with the "Gallery" portion triggering a drop down list.

So...basically all the text pages would be listed horizontally with the gallery listing as a dropdown.

Maybe that's not doable, but worth asking -:)
