Hi,
Copied some photos to a test installation of the v2 beta. Great features, looking forward to the final release. At the moment performance is really an issue, initial loading of the gallery is slow but the admin part is r e a l l y s l o w.

Thx,

Expect a huge impact on the speed issue in next update.

Thank you Karl,
I'm confident the performance will be there as it did in V1
I think you've pretty much covered all small issues I had with the previous version.
About the thumbnails, I believe it would be good to create the thumbnails to the size needed when the mouse hovers over it.

Thank you for the new version.
It is now much faster, but still the initial load takes sometimes quite long and in the admin part I could not see a difference. I tried to double the amount of memory available for the server but still the process that is started while opening the admin freezes the whole server down. Same when trying to navigate in the folders in admin.
In the gallery, when the initial load is ready, it is fast. And I really like the possibilities in tweaking the user interface, I think the user experience is great.
Great work,

Hi,
Definitively on the right track with the latest version on 20th. But still not right there with the speed. Tried to add memory and CPU to three times of what I have normally available on the virtual server, that gave the boost to be able to work with the admin part. On the other hand, I've just manually edited the xml-files which is actually still faster.
The gallery itself is fast very easy to watch through the photos.
Great work, thx. Looking forward to the final version

Today(21. July) we added a feature which has a massive impact on speed. See update log here:
www.photo.gallery/v2docs/updatelog/
It's called useCache:
www.photo.gallery/v2docs/articles/useCache
This feature speeds up the gallery immensely where it loads the main menu. There are still room for improvements on performance, and we have further plans ...

Hi,
This could be called improvement
The Admin part is now really usable with the amount of files (>3300) and folders (~30) I've copied to this test installation. And so is the frontend. A very good idea to have the structure cached this way, thx. The creation of the cache was also reasonable fast. And all this with the modest amount of memory I'm running this server on. Superb work.
What about the settings, are there coming a lot of changes in the structure of the settings? Should one let them still stay as they are or is it time to start to tweak with them from now on?

There will be changes, no doubt about that, but it depends slightly on what changes you are looking to do. Editing the main config file for global settings is relatively safe - You can simply save it every time you update, and then re-upload it. We will notify if there are changes in this config file, and you can easily update it manually.
As for themes, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to tweak a few settings and make backup of your themes. I suggest:
1. Create a new theme from the admin based on the theme you want to use.
2. Play around with the new theme as you like, and it won't get lost after update.
3. Most likely, all themes will work the same after any updates anyway. Even if a new parameter is added to themes, your outdated theme will just inherit a default value. We will notify on all theme update settings.

Hi,
And thx again, great new features.
A bug in the themes though as described in:
viewtopic.php?t=3380
You better use this url now:
http://dance-corner.net/iv2beta/?theme=dc
It overrides the problem with custom themes at the moment.

Thx for a fast fix, the gallery is now again available without using the theme in the url and the themes are as they should be.

At this stage this seems to be very stable and reasonable fast at least with the number of files in this test. And from what I've seen it is probably fast enough also with even bigger galleries.
Maybe we can see the Shopping Cart and Send eMail funtionalities soon? After that this gallery is ready for production from my side. Great work

Send email is right round the corner, but eCommerce will be a few more corners as its a bigger task.
Nice gallery, you have a lot of dance photos in there! I would perhaps change the main menu a little - increase minimum_width to 150~200 perhaps? There was a slight mistake in the default theme in last release where it was reduced to 50. I think it needs some minimum size ... The test "gallery menu - start here" seems to be sticking out ...

Thanks, doing a lot of that stuff... most of the photos are still in the v1 galleries on my main site though, just waiting to be moved. And true, Ive been playing around here and there with the parameters to see the effect and different possibilities, did not see the minimum width change, thx for pointing out.
The test "gallery menu - start here" seems to be sticking out ...
Waiting for the Site Menu -funtionality to be ready to see how the front end should actually be created.
Anyway, we've been waiting this v2 for a long time... but I believe one does not wait anythig good enough TOO long!

This is great stuf
Need to play around with it.
I'm not sure if this is relevant or not, actually depends on how much the themes schema is going to change before the release and after it. At the moment if one creates a custom theme it seems to work fine even if there are additional nodes in a new xml/css. But in the admin these missing nodes in the xml do not show (f.ex the textpage in the theme config xml) nor any other changes in the theme (f.ex the .textpage_title in the css file). Would it be possible to have an "Update themefiles structure" funtionality to fill in default values in an existing theme? This would allow and encourage more testing on the themes when the older version themefiles would still be usable.
Anonther point of view to this is of cource that searching for the differences allows one to get a better knowledge of the files

I totally understand what you are saying(and why you are saying it...)
Themes was one of the reasons we didn't want to release public beta too early(which now is relatively irrelevant anyway) because we pretty much have to require users to update(and most likely overwrite) their theme files on every update which is currently quite frequent.
Using an old theme after updating may still work fine, but there is no gurantee that there will not be complications. We did create a theme_default.xml in the /imagevue/config/ folder that would be used for settings that did not exist in users specific theme file, but this has not been integrated yet. A reason we havent been pushing for release of that, is because this might lead to users having outdated theme files, and then coming to forum asking "hey I can't find the option for this/that, and its wrong color". Expect it soon though ...
Another option would be some function to "update theme" so it adds missing settings based on the theme_default.xml. This may be a little tricky though if we delete settings, or move them around. Definitely something to think about!
