Imagevue and RSGallery2 integration

Hi,

You might have heard of the Joomla! project (www.joomla.org). It is an extensive open source content management system with a lot of 3rd party extensions. RSGallery2 is one of them (www.rsgallery2.net). It is a as you guessed a gallery component for Joomla!.

I'm one of the developers of this gallery and happened to stumble upon this great looking gallery. We have recently adapted RSGallery2 to be able to have an all flash frontend and are currently looking for people that can develop such a frontend. We hope this can be done in the same open source spirit as the component is created, but this is of course not mandatory.

So my wish is that someone takes the charm and looks of the imagevue gallery and links this to RSGallery2. How this can be done can be read here.

I hope someone will pick up on this, because the Joomla! project deserves such a nice flash based gallery system.

Thank you for your attention.

Thanks for the request/suggestion. We are very interested in working towards open source systems and APIs. We are already looking towards wordpress and flickr for a future release of imagevue, and perhaps also joomla. We also wouldnt mind providing free open source, as long as it isnt competitive to our commercial projects.

I had a quick look over the docs/API and I presume it would be a minimalistic task to create a pure slideshow module for RSGallery2. It would however be a much heavier task to create an entire gallery module including thumbnails and menu. Do you have any comments on this?

Hi,

thanks for answering my post.

http://rsgallery2.net/content/blogcategory/5/30/ Here you can read more about the flash slideshow abilities of RSGallery2. It is still in development, but in the next release, and also in the Nightly builds: http://rsgallery2.net/content/view/55/24/ one is able to have RSGallery2 create a custom XML file that can be used by a flash file. I have already successfully attached http://www.tutorio.com/tutorial/simple- ... ogallery/1 xmlphotogallery, a very simple flash gallery to RSGallery2 this way.

So as long as a dynamically created XML file can be read by the flash file, a lot is possible. I'll post an example of the xmlphotogallery implementation when I have it online.

Do you think a module with thumbnails and infinite nested galleries (supported by RSGallery2) is possible?

Thanks for looking into this.

Ok, I have played around with it some more, and here is the result:
http://photo.danieltulp.nl/index.php?op ... =2&catid=5

it is still in test phase, and not nearly as nice as your gallery system

and we also need categories to be a possibility

other then that, my flash skills are low to very low, this is basically just a tutorial slideshow: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx2004/thumbnails.htm, so not much Flash code skills needed there.

Hey Karl,

I was wondering what the status was of the project you were working on. Hope you can find some time to get started on this integration idea.
