Text Option: Keeping the stage clean while incl all data

22 Jul 2008, 10:58

1 idea for keeping a clean stage. The option of displaying in the text space a simple hyperlink which opens a popup text/metadata area.

So, for instance, a gallery could display (beneath, above, or on the side of an image) the Title as Text 1, and a hyperlink saying "more info" as Text 2 which opens a pop-up with all the remaining metadata (description, EXIF, etc...)

Or, an image could just have a hyper link as Text1 saying "info" with a popup for all the desired metadata.

This would help keep a very clean "image-centric" stage but still allow for rich metadata content within flash.

It would mean the ability to include all data without obscuring or offsetting the image in an awkward way.

Just discovered the image info button, which does something kinda like this.

Are text hyperlinks in the future?

I only ask cause I would like to hide the text unless a user wants it. The only way to currently do that is set text to display either by rolling over the image or the image info button (correct?), which won't really work if hyperlinks are included and need to be accessed.

Maybe 1 click of the image button to display text and 1 click (or close image) to hide it?

If hyperlinks are not in the future than the info button set for rollover works nicely.

The current gallery really is awesome in it's flexibility! My suggestion here is mainly in hopes of keeping it both as clean and functional as possible.

When you say hyperlinks, you simply mean external links?

There is no problem including hyperlinks when using the image rollover event. You can still rollover and click links as long as you set the description to display over the image as it is in our bluedragon demo:

Yes, external links.

What about the possibility of a method for noting external links separately from the description? Maybe a dedicated field for custom external links.

This way they could be displayed independent of the other info. Say one as text 1 and the other as text 2.

You could set that up yourself. Add links to the text2 option, and display them as you like ... preferably not on some mouse event?

I think I am failing to see the issue here ...

What I have in mind is displaying the text as a rollover, then a custom URL (such as a bands website) statically in a different location (above or below an image).

My understanding is the the text "link" and "ablink" are simply the relative and absolute URLs to the selected image. Is this correct?

My apologies if I'm unclear & thanks for being patient with me -:)

I'm starting to understand you now ... That would require a new custom input field in the admin "description_2" or "custom_link" ... Then you could create custom links with the new field and assign them to your static link display. yes/no?

Yes...thats it exactly! It would also give additional flexibility beyond what I have in mind.
