Video Gallery

28 Sep 2006, 18:29

It would be great if Imagevuex had a video gallery like the one on the Macromedia site below.

http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/fla ... o/gallery/

Within Imagevuex I would see it working something like this...

1. The menu and folder approach would be the same/similar as it is today.

2. The thumbnail screen would contain thumnails with small looping video segments.

3. When a thumbnail is clicked a page similar to the current Imagevuex slideshow would appear playing the selected video.

4. The video page would have controls similar to the slide show with the ability to directly go to the next video in the list without revisiting the thumbnail page.

5. Videos could also be selected in a similar fashion as the image select functionality in the slide show.

This is certainly not the first time video support has been requested for Imagevue. We will be considering integration options for Imagevue V2 next year, and here are a few of the dilemmas:
  1. Flash only supports native SWF video. It will not support video in other formats like MPG, AVI or QT, unless they are first encoded to SWF.
  2. Only some servers have the PHP technology to automatically create thumbnail snaps from video.
Thanks for the tip. We will certainly look into the possibilities ...

How difficult is it to convert non SWF video to SWF video?

I think it would be fair for the site owner to develop their own thumbnails for videos... especially if the thumbnail is a partcial video segment.

Don't feel the need to solve everything in the first release.

I can almost guarantee that a future version will support video. It will however be restricted to SWF video, which should be ok now that SWF video is emerging as the new standard for displaying video online. When such a feature will be integrated, I have no way to forecast as of yet ...

Right on Karl... video will be sweet in Imagevuex... and I am in no hurry... so no need to forecast.

I currently have an html solution for video on my site but just thought it would be nice in Imagevuex... especially after I saw the Macromedia video gallery.

I don't think there are any slick video galleries out there at this point... at least that I could find. I have looked at the CNN and MSNBC galleries but I think a hybrid of the Macromedia solution and Imagevuex would be prety nice.

Thanks
Alex

Would it be also possible to dynamically resize the area which is viewed if the FLV video has another resolution? (like it is already done with images).

For long videos it would be good if the user can jump forward by clicking into the scrollbar.

(sorry for my bad english, im from germany ;) )

Regards

If (or when=) we integrate FLV video support, it will certainly feature a video player with all standard video controls. The video player should also be able to automatically conform to any video resolutions also.

Hello mjau-mjau,

thank you very much for your answer. I appreciate your work and would like to know, if ImageVeux is only your sub-project and there won't be new updates in the near future or if the development is already going on. I'm asking this because I have seen that you are already involved in your Flash CMS project. Is there anything available like a Roadmap for ImageVeux or something like this?
In my opinion a rich media application like ImageVeux would become even more interesting if it could handle FLV movie data in the elegant way like it is done with images :)

Greetings from Germany

We are certainly looking forwards to a new version, but I cant provide a roadmap with exact dates I'm afraid. My work style doesn't permit such commitment. I can however tell you we are committed to Imagevue and related development.
