imagevue 2.8

17 Feb 2012, 04:02

Where is the new version? Is it getting closer to be able at least see a screenshot of how it will look like and what features we will be expecting?
Just curios, as many others must be too :-)

Hello developer team,

I am curious for the next version too.

I have been using your gallery for some years now.
Have been going through many versions.
I like your product, it is well supported and constantly updated.

The HTML gallery is getting more and more important in these times.
And I am saying this as a flash developer!

For my last project I customized the HTML for mobile devices.
I was not really happy with the code but its working now with compromises.
Version 2.7 HTML is more a fallback than a clean and well designed interface.

When can we expect a new HTML version.
Can you name something: 1 month, 6 month, 1 year

Keep up the great work!

Best regards
Bernhard

We totally agree with what both of you mention and the focus. Giving exact dates has proved to backfire on us earlier, but lets say I personally hope to have 2.8 out in March, but April 100% Guaranteed.

I am wondering about the future upgrade path of imagevue. In another post you mentioned that it is possible that you will develop a separate gallery based on having a HTML 5 frontend. I personally see HTML 5 becoming the main stream replacement for flash applications.

I personally would like to see the HTML5 gallery just like the flash version you currently have, but I don’t want to invest my money in to the current flash version if there isn’t an upgrade path to the html version.

I guess it comes down to one thing. Money.

Will I have to buy a separate Lic for the HTML version? (if there ever is one)

Thanks

JP

No, don't worry ... We are not planning to upgrade to html5 and then charge money for it. Also, there will not be a sudden "upgrade" from flash to html5 - whatever frontends we offer, it will be a transitional phase, first aimed at devices that don't support flash ... and then if it progresses into something visually- and interactively competitive to the flash version, gallery owners may consider substituting the flash gallery even for devices that do support flash. First priority is to offer dedicated versions for the emerging mass of "mobile" devices, like smartphones and tablets.

Any thing new?

There are a few things I was wanting to see in 2.8, (html5 video / html5 audio). So the video and audio player will not be flash but html5.
Is this something that we will see in 2.8.
A long wait for 2.8 hopefully means a lot of new things and cool things :-) Then the wait will be worth it :-)

Where is the new version 2.8 on the radar or is it still a long way to go. It has been such a long wait.

Yes it has been a long wait -please excuse us. We are still targeting end of April for a strong release, and after this there should also be more frequent updates where you may see us redefining things.

i am definitely raising my hand for HTML part upgrade. I am looking forward to next release.

Well, we are working on it ... and hopefully you will see some nice 2.8 with nice dedicated frontend for iphone+ipad (and other touchscreen devices) soon.
